Your PS3 can play US, japanese or HK editions, in Europe we estimate 80% of the worldwide BD production is region free.
FOX for example, lock every movie they release.

We're in the same boat, I own a japanese PS3 :) , I'm waiting for a good and not too expensive hybrid player.
Samsung would fit my needs, if what I read is true, with the BD-UP5000 for 799€, it's region A+B.

"Pars vite et reviens tard" is region free and, according to Gaumont, has english subs.

I have been able to confirm that the upcoming release of David Fincher's ZODIAC will be both region-free and with the original English audio untouched. Pic is handled through WB-Denmark. Street date is September 29th.

How do you know? Have you seen the director's cut? Maybe you'll prefer the theatrical cut.

Maybe when the director's cut is released to DVD next year, the WB-Denmark will handle that on Blu-ray as well.

I'm still on the format fence, but I'm planning on hopping to one side or the other by the end of the year. "Zodiac" is definitely a movie I want to own in HD, so it's nice to know I have the option to buy the Blu-ray, should that be the format I go with.

I keep reading about this thread but which one is it? The Foreign Cinema in BLU thread is for foreign-language productions only. The only other thread I see that addresses foreign is the foreign cinema in HD-DVD...which clearly isn't where this info belongs. Am I missing something here?

If you guys believe that the info is too hectic at this point let me know and perhaps I could start another thread where we could cover ALL foreign-produced Blu releases which will naturally include non-region A titles of English language productions.

Either way since this is a region-free title I thought it would be ok to have a thread on its own, if not OK, I would not mind maintaining a new thread.

Why don't we just get Adam to change the name of the current international thread so its just a general thread. That way all the info is one one place. Just a thought, maybe everyone else disagrees with me.

All I'm saying is that if Zodiac was out on both formats right now I'd pass. Much like I did with the DVD release. Zodiac is the best movie I've seen this year and I would love to watch it in HD but I'll patiently wait.

The other thread is for non-English productions. Adding non region-A titles of English-language films there will quickly water it down and eventually destroy it. I much rather have a second thread where we post all non-region A info (with covers, etc). The other thread I would like to keep for arhtouse/foreign info on Blu. I would not mind maintaining the second thread, if such should exist, as well.

At the end however I would go with whatever the rest of the members here decide. Just let it be a clean and useful thread, not a mish-mash of dates and titles no one cares about.

Close to three hours total running time, so about 20 minutes longer.

It seems like there's 3 types here:

1.US movies being released internationally.
2.International movies being released internationally.
3.International movies being released in the US.

Personally, I'm most interested in a thread that continues 1 & 2, because those are the ones we're less likely to hear about.

I'd love to see what Fincher adds, but I was quite pleased with the theatrical cut.

The director's cut is BY FAR the superior cut of this film (yes, I have seen it). There is at least one sequence, in which he condenses several years of the investigation into a single montage, that is as good as anything in the theatrical cut.

Remember too that the Region 1 Special Edition coming out in January is going to be a two-disc set LOADED with extras, a la Fincher's Fight Club and Panic Room.

It was a beautifully done poster, I like that they used it as the cover.

Really looking forward to this one.

I think the "International" thread needs to have both Us movies released internationally and international movies released internationally, as long as everything is Region A or Region Free.

Zodiac is also coming out in the UK on Blu-Ray. Will this release be region free as well?

I don't have any info on the UK release so I am not qualified to provide a legitimate answer!

I have been able to confirm however that a slightly cheaper Swedish disc, also region-free, is being released at the same time.
