If you're interested, I wrote a review of Tartan's release of Black Book.

I think it was delayed from June 16 to June 23.

Has it been delayed further?

Well, they should be but we won't know until some reviews come in. The company releasing them hasn't released any Blu-rays before.

ITV previously released Capricorn One, which was region-free, and this batch of titles was confirmed to be as well.

Wow, that's a great deal. I have to go to Best Buy this weekend anyway to get some credit on a purchase. Might pick that up as well.

As Gizmo mentioned in the Deals thread, it's $14.95 at Amazon. But yeah, tax for instant gratification usually wins.

For once looks like I won't be buying anything from XC on this batch.

Perfect Creature looks somewhat interesting but is too expensive for a blind buy. Don't care about The Grudge.

Haven't seen the Neverending Story in ages so I have a feeling I probably wouldn't find it worth the money.

Zodiac is tempting, but I got the domestic HD DVD cheap, so I'll probably wait until Paramount re-releases it domestically on Blu.

I also ended up getting Zodiac on the cheap (after I said no more HD DVDs lol)... it was pretty good for a blind buy, but I don't think I'll bother with the BD (even if there is an upgrade).

Can anyone with the HD-DVD version of Zodiac tell me off the top of your head whether it looks like this Zodiac in Blu contains most of the special features?

Judging by the review here at DVDTalk and the back cover scan at DVDEmpire, it appears to have exactly the same special features.

Except lower bitrate Dolby soundtrack (640kbps vs 1.5mbps). Shame tey didnt put a DTS HD MA soundtrack onto all that extra space.

You'll notice I said same special features. I assumed he knew the audio track was not equal.

Shame they didn't use lossless on the original HD DVD too.

Just ordered The Machinist on Blu from Xploited. Cannot wait - so glad I didn't $15 more on the Japanese HD DVD.

Yes! Knew there was a reason why I hadn't been able to pull the trigger on the HD DVD. Thanks for the tip Bunkaroo!

I found this link at Blu-Ray.com with a comparison of the R2 DVD, the Japanese HD DVD and the German Blu-Ray:

http://web12.dvd2web.de/hd_mach/hd_mach.htm

To my eyes, the level of detail on the HD DVD and Blu-Ray is pretty much equal (both are noticeably better than the R2 DVD).

The HD DVD is a tad darker. Looks like the BD is bare bones except for possibly the trailer, while the HD DVD has deleted scenes and behind the scenes stuff.

Also, the BD has DTS-HD MA, and the HD DVD has DD+ only.

Tough choice, but the extras aren't worth $15 to me, especially considering the lossless track on the BD.

That version is identical to the HD DVD version except it lists a trailer which the HD DVD does not (on the back of the case). It might be included on the HD DVD disc however.

Word of caution: unless you have to have it now, just wait. This should be released in early/mid October here.

i recently received the UK BD of the chinese film "the assembly". when i select the DTS-HD track, i get a very loud static and popping noise throughout. i had the same problem on the dts tracks on DIE HARD 1 and 3 along with portions of SUNSHINE. i have my bd-30 (with 1.8 firmware) hooked up to my pioneer 91-txh via hdmi. i also reported the same problem with my a-35 on some hd-dvds that i had. when i switch it to the core dts track, it plays fine but the dts-hd has the horrid noise that would've blown my speakers if it wasn't for me having the volume almost completely off due to a sleeping 4 month old in the next room.
mod edit: The above portion crossed out as the post was made in error. See next page for explanation by GizmoDVD. -namja

Please tell me you're not trying to spread FUD about DTS-HD MA tracks.

First, there is no mention of The Machinist there.

Second, this issue has been widely discussed at AVS for months. Those who have spent the time researching it have been able to correct their receivers. Yes, the fix was to decoders in the receivers - not something on the disc. I have personally gone through this process with my Onkyo 605 and I no longer have issues.

You need to clarify why you posted that in response to the Machinist, or stop with the FUD.
