Kubrick Quartet of Titles coming to BD/HD DVD 10/23 (w/Dolby TrueHD Tracks)

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...y,_HD_DVD_/807

I know this is mentioned in the release thread, but these films deserve their own thread for discussion. HD Digest makes no mention of Full Metal Jacket, but the inclusions of TrueHD tracks is a nice surprise.

I made the mistake of selling my Shining DVD last year because these were rumored to be released then. Oh well, at least it will finally get upgraded to HD.

Are there even words to describe how much 2001 will rock in HD?

Are there even words to describe how much ANY of these Kubricks will rock in HD?

Since I've got my eye on Clockwork, EWS, Shining and, of course, 2001, I'll be biting the bullet on whatever imminent boxset they toss in my direction.

Huh. WB is getting a crapload of money out of me these next two quarters.

Sounds awesome. And although I haven't seen it stated, I do hope these are in widescreen format. I'm sure Kubrick would have loved to be able to show them in HD when they first hit video. I'd gladly get all of them, although I do wonder if Full Metal Jacket will be upgraded and I may decide to import Eyes Wide Shut.

2001 definitely will be since it was not one of his movies supposedly meant to be full screen. However, with Full Metal Jacket already released as widescreen I think its a safe bet the rest will be as well.

Why import? I thought the word was that it will be the uncensored version, but we'll see.

What about suppliments!?

Thats what I'm screaming - give me some of those behind the scenes shots with Kubrick home video during The Shining.

Cast and crew interviews...

Why not a reunion with a couple cast members.

One of the users on avs listed the specs and it says R rated. I hope its uncensored, but doubt it. Ill import also, or keep my unrated dvd.

DVDEmpire just listed Clockwork & 2001 and list the disc's AR as 1.66 and 2.20, respectively

I don't think anyone has any AR concerns specifically about either of those titles (unless I'm missing your point.) I think it is mainly the titles previously only available unmatted (i.e. THE SHINING and EYES WIDE SHUT.)

Oh, I wasn't aware of the specific titles that had the AR issues (not a huge fan of these and I only have the white covered DVD's from the original Collection). I just happened to see the specs posted on those two discs. When DVDEmpire gets up the specs on those two you mentioned I'l post them.

Warner's online store just show standard re-releases for those two.

The 'quartet' of HD titles are up though. I pre-ordered them with the 20% off discount code (WBWEL). $15.96 each

I preordered Shining, 2001, Full Metal Jacket and Clockwork at wb store for $69.11 total. Its a bit cheaper than Amazon will be after the 10% off.

I ordered the BD versions since they will probably be the same as HD-DVD. If HD has IME or anything extra, ill cancel and reorder the HD versions.

Cant wait for these! Especially the Shining and 2001!

Paths of Glory, Killer's Kiss, and The Killing would all be MGM, I believe. Paths of Glory definitely has a high-def master handy, having aired on HDNet Movies (pillarboxed, if anyone's curious).

As well as FMJ. Both versions shown are the 2001 versions and the unremastered previous HD versions.
