What do you recommend: a standalone Blu-ray player or a PS3?

If you're an audiophile, you aren't getting the most out of Blu-ray discs with the optical audio output, but for most people, it'll be good enough.
Surprised it took this long for someone to post this.
This is the ONLY drawback to the PS3. Other than that, its a great player.

The PS3 is a high-def device and it doesn't come with any cables to allow you to use high-def out of the box?

Think i've had it for over 10+ years now.
lossless audio wouldn't be a hugh deal for me though.

do you need to buy any special cable for the PS3 HDMI or component outputs?
(The PS2 required a special cable for components)
or can you use any standard HDMI or component cable?
I have a HDMI->DVI cable already since my plasma only has DVI inputs. would I be able to use that?

PS3...then goto Monoprice.com. Cheap HDMI cables.
Also check out your local GameStop/EB as I have seen numerous Blu-Ray remotes for $20 used.
