Transformers
Not sure of the studio or company or whatever.
But when this movie comes out will is be hd dvd or Blu Ray exclusive? or both? |
Paramount = Both
Both, Paramount/Dreamworks do dual releases.
well, at least HD will have this.
Judging by past history on their high profile new releases, this one will probably be a nice 2-disc set with HD extras. And since they'll start releasing titles with lossless audio soon, I'm sure this will get TrueHD for HD DVD and a PCM mix for BD. I don't think anyone has been blown away by any of Summer's offerings and I think this will be the event movie that all ages are going to see. I've been a huge Transormers fan since the cartoon first aired, but I think this is going to appeal to everyone. I hope it does well to allow for a sequel.
This title has the potential to become the new reference disc on BOTH formats.
I believe this would be the first title involving Spielberg (he's executive producer). Assuming he doesn't block it from being released, it could pave the way for others. Perhaps this could be that title that is rumored to get DTS-HD MA on both formats because of Spielberg's ties to DTS?
I thought a December date was mentioned over at AVS - of course, it's probably just a rumour.

There is no release date right now so the rumor on AVS is false.

Ideally, both formats would have lossless audio. I cannot wait to get this in HD.
Sadly, the animated movie will be Blu-Ray only. -ohbfrank- Well, sad for non-BD supporters (like me). Great for BD and dual format folk, however. :toast:
Yes, hopefully a loaded 2-disc set. This will definitely be the biggest selling HD movie at that point... I would guess (hope) it could sell 100,000 in it's first wk.

Just saw this last night at a screening and I just have to say I can not wait for it to be on HD-DVD. Assuming it has Dolby TrueHD, it will be the shining disc in my collection to demo.

Nope, according to DVDEmpire the Paramount/Dreamworks Blades of Glory BD & HDDVD will supposedly be the first with a lossless track, though Jiggawhat says that he doesn't see a TrueHD track on the HD-DVD disc in the Paramount lossless thread.
Yeah his info contradicted the info on DVDEmpire so I asked him in the same thread but he hasn't gotten back to us yet.
Even if there's no secure date, it has to come out before the holiday. Kelley Avery & Co. would have to be idiots to not release this. I'd even release it on HD DVD and Blu-Ray a week or two prior.
Seriously, where can I pre-order this?
When I watched this movie one of the things I kept thinking about was "I really need to upgrade my system!" |
This is the first movie where my wife said "if it comes out on BR only, then babe...were getting BR"..lol I told her it should be out on HD. I was surprised that she would buy a format for one movie..woohoo
I just got back from watching the movie and there is a scene in it where a guy is holding a 360 in his hand, then they show a Mountain Dew machine next...both having to do with Microsoft, so I'm almost certain it will be on HD-DVD.
Currently don't have either HD format, but after watching Transformers today this title might make me finally jump in.
Wow! Just wow! After seeing this movie twice, I must own it on HD DVD!:D
The movie is that good? i haven't watch it... want to, but no time... work work work and tired tired tired
Oh, definitely getting it on BD (if it's HD only, oh well...) |
To me it was definitely that good, Ocelot. Whole lot of fun from beginning to end and the right blend of modern and old school goodness. :D
This movie really wasn't that great, the Special effects were, but the overall story and the route it took was weak. very weak.

Zzz... Very weak, dull, uninspired action scenes. Actors weren't right for the roles. Just a whole mess. Special effects were cool though.

If only we had a "movie talk" forum.
Call me crazy but this is the first time I'm actually looking forward to owning a Michael Bay film!

It's Paramount, which is supporting both. Personally, I can't wait to see it on Blu-ray, actually I'm planning on buying a Blu-ray player in the near future, with Transformers being a major reason why. And the best thing is that on a lot of their major releases, like M:i:III and Flags of our Fathers, Paramount has gone out and done a nice big 2 disc release for the High- def versions (now, why did it take them so long to do that on standard DVD?). And a lot of their high-def ones (at least the ones I've seen) have all had DTS tracks, so hopefully they do the same here.
Screw DTS, Transformers better have a fucking lossless track.
Wait a sec, didn't i read the movie review from dvdtalk not long ago? the review was really positive...

Yet different people have different opinions about movies. Who knew? |
Anyway, for Bay movies, i know what i'm getting into... Personally, i enjoyed all Bay's movies so far, the actions are pretty intense. Well, story and characters are another matter, but for Transformers, it shouldn't bother me. I'll get this on BD for sure.
If the HiDef edition looks like the DLP presentation I saw this morning - it did not impress me... to many dark scenes displayed a graininess that was very distracting. Also this was one film that could have benefitted from a 1.85 aspect ratio, the Transformers should have looked massive and tall, 2.35 can rarely translate that sort of imagery to perfect effect.
