My fave DLP screens are over at Fairfax Cinema De Lux - the screens are much larger. On a side note, I saw the latest 'Harry Potter' not in IMAX (that's tonight with a friend I promised to see it this way), but in 35mm over at AMC Tyson's Corner on Screen 3 - and even for a darker movie, there wasn't any grain at all - in fact the print was probably the best I've seen in a long time where it was jaw dropping in it's clarity (although I do still find cigarette burns [reel change circles] still massively disruptive). Also, any idea why Tysons doesn't use DLP? Although I though I saw them showing the new Pixar movie with DLP (at least that's what the sign above the entrace to the room/theather said. However, they are clearly using them on the pre-show promotions, such as "The 20" show, but then once the trailers and movie start it switches over to grainy film!! Also, re: my DLP viewing in Richmond - I did not notice any grain. Perhaps the equipment? |

AMC Tysons Corner's one DLP system is on screen 5 - it was most definately DLP cause when I saw 'Ratatouille' it was a digital presentation. AMC really needs to upgrade their two largest screens to DLP screens 3 and 11, I hound them about it all the time. Logistically, I'd love to see them add a system over near my house, at Mazza Galleria and the Uptown since NEC DLP systems have proven the largest theatres in the country - Arclight's Dome, Seattle's Cinerama, NYC's Ziegfeld can benefit and display DLP without any flaws. The latter in fact, the Ziegfeld, is outfitted to playback 3D DLP features, one like myself can't wait to see how the Star Wars films will look on such a huge screen, in DLP and 3D!! |

How do you know what screens are DLP equiped at FFX and Tysons? And don't even get me started on OotP over there. Hence DeSux instead of DeLux... This certainly isn't the first time that they haven't had a blockbuster movie. Last year for Pirates 2 you had to go over to the other FFX theather, which is definitely not up to par to say the least. |

I don't which auditoriums are equipped at Cinema De Lux, but you can ask 703/378-6550. As for Pirates 2 I had to trek all the way out to the Regal Sterling Virginia theatre - ugh! great presentation, not the best auditorium, it was large, but you can tell Regal upgraded this theatre to stadium seats, the raked seats begin more than half way back - resulting in the screen becoming smaller the further you sit... not good in my book. |
You know, if a film being grainy is enough to warrant not purchasing the same film in either HD DVD or Blu-Ray, how poorly will titles like Minory Report, AI, Catch Me If You Can, and War Of The Worlds sell on HD DVD/Blu-Ray?
Not buying the film simply because you don't like it is fine, however. |
with the new annoucement that Paramount is jumping on the lossless audio bandwagon - I can't wait to hear TRANSFORMERS in Dolby TrueHD (HD-DVD edition). [High Def-Digest is stating that future BluRay discs from Paramount will include uncompressed PCM tracks.]

Transformers will definitely have lossless and it's going to be a very feature packed release. It will be 2 discs and might have different encodes for both HD-DVD and BD to maximize both formats capabilities.

Where'd you read this, by the way? |
I wouldn't care if it was a bare bones release. This will be amazing in HD.

Very nice.
