I've merged the Bill Hunt thread into this one. I also deleted the link to his site. If you want to see it, I think you can figure out where to find it.

Spiderbite 11-02-07 12:40 AM

We've got someone posting Bill's propaganda in the Bargains forum as well. I guess some people really do listen to this guy.

ResIpsa 11-02-07 04:13 AM

I don't know if it's so much listening to him as it is watching in rapt fascination as he self-combusts with each new positive HD-DVD development. He's like the train-wreck you just can't look away from....

Heads up!

Best Buy's website now has the A3 on sale for $199! You still get Bourne Identity & 300 packed in + 2 more movies of your choice. Excellent deal.

Wow! The A3 plus 9 free HD DVDs is a great deal. A player with 300, Bourne Idenity, Transformers and Batman Begins would make an awesome Christmas present. Plus 5 more free discs by mail

chanster 11-02-07 10:12 AM

HD insanity!!! I just picked up the A3 (already own an A2) with Transformers, Troy Directors Cut, 300, Bourne Identity + 5 more free discs!!!! INSANE!!! Thanks Toshiba!!!

ToddSm66 11-02-07 10:25 AM

Are we positive that 300 and Bourne are in the box? It doesn't mention it on the webpage.

Also, is this online only, or is it the same price in stores? Any real difference between the A2 and A3? I'm going to have to jump on one of these deals - just the free movies are worth it alone.

RichC2 11-02-07 10:32 AM

I'm a huge supporter of HD-DVD, and I know how critical this holiday season is, but I hope Toshiba knows what they're doing.

300 and Bourne are in the box for every A3/A30/A35, regardless where you purchase.

Damn, I just paid $299 for mine last week at CC. Looks like I'll be heading over there today to pm and get my 110% difference.

tonymontana313 11-02-07 11:21 AM

Guys I just picked an A3 plus 9 hd-dvds at best buy for 179.99!!!!!!! Check your post office for a 10 percent off coupon in the movers guide packet. That coupon is good till January. I am weeping tears of joy for a great day of sales!

ToddSm66 11-02-07 11:47 AM

Just got back from Best Buy with my new A3...I really need to stay away from this place - you people are going to make me go broke. Now I just need to pick my 5 free. The rebate form I got looks different than the one I've seen on here before. I thought I remembered Blazing Saddles and Casablanca being options...but I got this:

Pool A:
Aeon Flux
Babel
The Italian Job

Pool B:
The Hulk
Pitch Black
The Thing

Pool C:
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
Swordfish
Full Metal Jacket

Pool D:
Firewall
The Frighteners
U2: Rattle and Hum

Pool E:
Black Rain
Darkman
Troy

Some of those are pretty rough.

tonymontana313 11-02-07 11:51 AM

Yeah Pool E looks pretty bad.

You DID get your 2 free on the spot, yes?

I did, thanks. Grabbed Transformers and Bourne Supremacy. Kind of in shock that I got Transformers - I really didn't enjoy it in the theaters. I've just heard too many good things about the HD DVD version.

I had been using the Xbox add-on drive with component cables, so hopefully the A3 will be a bit of an upgrade for me.

D and E are rough for me - I already own Troy and The Frighteners.

No idea what to grab from Pool A - I've never seen any of those.

Damed 11-02-07 12:01 PM

Based on VIDEO/AUDIO QUALITY, I would choose

A: Aeon Flux
B: They're all good, but the Hulk is incredible.
C: Charlie
D: Frighteners
E: Troy or Darkman. Considering Troy DC is out and even a better transfer, I'd go with Darkman.

Hammer99 11-02-07 12:03 PM

Good day for HD DVD just got better:
Bourne Ultimatum is up for pre-order at Amazon!

TheMovieman 11-02-07 12:45 PM

I went ahead and bought the A3 as well. Picked up Batman Begins and Transformers (though now I wish I had gotten Bourne Supremacy) as my freebies. Already bought the A2 from Wal Mart but I'm keeping one for the bedroom and will give my sister the other for Christmas.

A is simple - Aeon Flux if you want to show off the colors HD can produce (it looks absolutely stunning in scenes, not a great movie but it's no Ultraviolet, and I didn't find it boring, just occasionally cheesy.), Babel if you're an arthouse movie buff, and Italian Job is the "safe choice".

Babel also works if you really, really hate Charlize Theron, but I don't see how that is possible .

I went to CC on my lunch break and got a pm for $199 on the A3 I bought last week. Ahhh... sweet monetary satisfaction. These deals today are too good for anyone NOT to jump into the HD pool.

tonymontana313 11-02-07 05:13 PM

I still cannot believe that I got 9 free hd-dvds from Best Buy today. Toshiba, I will salute you with a cold one later tonight.

they absolutely are. Studios need the user base to grow in order to start making money on software sales. Toshiba is doing that by heavily discounting players. Warner Brothers is looking very closely on how many units Toshiba can sell this Christmas. If they see a huge spike in sales, then they may lean towards backing HD DVD exclusively in January '08.
