Yes. Standard DVDs play in a Bluray player.

Although, if you want upconversion, you need to get a PS3.

Sort of related, but are there any Blu-ray or HD players that are region free for old SD dvds? (I believe they didn't add region coding to the new generation right?)

Blu Rays have a different region coding, but unfortunately none of the players can be hacked to be region free for DVD's. So keep a region-free dvd player handy.

Every single Blu-ray player I have looked at upconverts DVDs. I don't know where you heard that only PS3 upconverts, but it's wrong.

I am. To put it another way, you CANNOT buy a blu-ray player that DOESNT upconvert. There arent any in existance. Oh and other then the PS3, you CANNOT buy a blu-ray player without Analog Outs.

Nah, DVDs don't work in a Blu-ray player. Get an HD DVD player instead!

I can certainly confirm both my Samsung and Panasonic BD players upconvert.
