Toshiba's 1 month HD DVD player sale

Does anyone know about this? I read this on imdb - of all places. Still, its the first time the price sounds good to me.

Toshiba Slashes Prices of HD-DVD Players -- For a Month

Toshiba intensified its high-definition-disk battle with Sony's Blu-ray players by offering a month-long, instant $100 rebate on its own HD DVD players. The rebate brings down the price of a high-definition player to a record-low $299. In addition, Toshiba is offering to knock $100 off the price of any of its HDTV sets that are purchased with an HD DVD player. The company recently announced that buyers of its HD DVD players would also be able to select five free HDTV movies from a selection of fifteen. The promotion is set to launch on Sunday and continue until June 16.

$299 and five free discs? That might do it for me.

...plus another 4 if Best Buy's promotion is still in place for this.

The five free discs are presumably the same deal as before:

Disc one: either Apollo 13, Seabiscuit, or The Chronicles of Riddick
Disc two: Casablanca, Constantine, or The Dukes of Hazzard
Disc three: Four Brothers, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, or Sky Captain and the
World of Tomorrow
Disc four: The Rundown, Blazing Saddles, or U2: or Rattle and Hum
Disc five: U-571, The Perfect Storm, or We Were Soldiers

Amazon is also going to participate. They're selling it for ~ 300 right now, so I wonder how low it will be on Sunday.

Another great deal. Between this & the BD Panny deal, IMO it's hard to find a good excuse for anyone not to support both formats anymore.

Tyner-
Can you please recap the 4 free movies promotion?

I currently know of the following promotion:
HD-A2 for $299 at best buy 5/20-5/26, and buy the Matrix Trilogy and get two more movies for free. I am interested in finding out if this price is including, or in addition to, the rebate offered by toshiba.

I was able to move my 3 free from the A1 rebate on Ebay for about $50, so figure you could still get two that you want if you do a little leg work.

And is the key word in that statement. I think many people read it as buy the toshiba and get 2 hddvd's and if you buy the Matrix set then you get 2 more.
The statement says you have to buy both a player AND one of the Matrix sets to get 2 free movies.

Edit: Although he may be talking about the online offer Best Buy has going. If you buy a HD-A20 online, you get 4 free. I wonder if they will drop that deal once this $100 rebate goes into effect, because they are still showing the price of the HD-A20 at $499.

This week Best Buy is giving you 4 free movies of your choice (no TV sets or box sets) if you buy an HD-A20 at normal price.

Next week the HD-A2 is going on sale for $299. If you purchase either version of The Matrix at the same time as your HD-A2, you can pick two free movies.

These Best Buy promotions have nothing to do with the Toshiba promotion to send away for 5 free HD DVDs (choices listed up above).

So this week you can get an HD-A20 for $499, plus 4 free movies on the spot, plus 5 free movies from the mail in offer.

Next week you can get the HD-A2 for $299, plus 5 free movies from the mail in offer.

Next week you can get the HD-A2 for $299, plus buy either version of The Matrix, get 2 free moves on the spot from Best buy, plus 5 free movies from the mail in offer.

The sale on the A2 lasts for a month. The final week of the sale, it will be expended to a $100 instant rebate on the HD-A2 and HD-XA2 in addition to the HD-A2.

You can give them to me

The upcoming deals are just to good to pass up if you are on the fence. With Best Buy's 4 free are still going on also, that equals out to 9 free discs. Next week, buy the Matrix and get another two on the spot. Killer deals I tell ya if you're on the fence. Matter of fact, here's the first review of the Matrix on HDDVD i've seen, and it looks/sounds AMAZING!

P.S. Although it's been said before, but through this sunday at Circuit City, if you already have a 360, you can buy the HDDVD player and pick up two free movies on the spot. That sounds like a pretty good bargain to me also.

Wow, I think I am going to wait for the HD-A2 to drop with the rebate to 299 and buy the matrix trilogy and get 2 more discs for free. You can't beat that price with a stick. Plus I just got my 30inch HDTV for Christmas and never got to fully see what it can do considering I don't have a box for HD channels yet.

"Next week you can get the HD-A2 for $299, plus buy either version of The Matrix, get 2 free moves on the spot from Best buy, plus 5 free movies from the mail in offer."

It's funny, I remember buying my first Sony DVD player when they first started coming out and it was almost at that price. Looking forward to next week. Some good purchases.

********question for anyone that knows. the 2 free dvd's on the spot. Are these any dvd's or from a select list?

The ad says, "excludes box sets & TV series." You should be able to pick anything else in stock as the two free selections with the purchase of the HD-A2 and a Matrix HD DVD set.

Amazing, I think you have to be retarded to pass up this deal. Either that or complete broke. Thank goodness I got my Tax Return Check in. I'm excited for my purchase now, I can't wait.

Check your mail. I just got a 12% rewardzone BestBuy coupon yesterday. It doesn't exclude HD-DVD players.

So if I go get in on the A20 deal today or tomorrow for $500, will I be able to go back on Sunday and PM it down to $400 and keep my 4 in-hand freebies? I don't see the A20 listed in speedy's ad at $399 next week, but I assume it will be priced that way in store.

The instant rebate will not apply to the A20 until June 10.

from the official press release:

Beginning May 20th, 2007, consumers buying a Toshiba HD-A2 model player will receive an immediate $100 instant rebate in store, for an attractive price of $299.99*.

During the final week of the rebate period, from June 10th through June 16th, 2007, Toshiba will increase the incentive for consumers to enjoy high definition. Consumers can apply the $100 rebate to any Toshiba HD DVD player, resulting in prices of $299.99* for the HD-A2 or $399.99* for the HD-A20 models. Or consumers can buy any Toshiba HDTV 42" and over (measured diagonally) along with any Toshiba HD DVD player and receive an instant $200 rebate in store on the collective purchase.

Ah, ok. So what about then? That's still within a normal 30-day window (not sure if BB's PM policy is 90 days).

This is making it even more tempting.

That set looks like it might work for me.

I give credit to Toshiba for timing this right with the Matrix release. Smart move!
