Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on update? Anytime soon?

I know there's been talk of an update for the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on -- mainly to fix audio problems. There's also been lots of problems with HDScape / Digital Video Essentials discs. I also suspect that similar issues are what is causing 3x DVDs (HD DVD content on a regular DVD disc) burned by such products as Ulead VideoStudio/Movie Factory and Pinnacle Studio not to work even though they work on standalone HD DVD players just fine.

So anyway, with all of these problems, I've heard rumors that the fix won't be released on May 7 when it was expected to go with the Xbox 360's dashboard update.

Has anyone heard anything more about when we might actually get an update? I especially would like the 3x DVDs to work as it would be nice to create some high def slideshows, etc.

Well, just found this article from just a few days ago that says the fix WILL be part of the May 7 update. Hope it's right!

On another note regarding the 3x DVDs (not sure if that's really what you should call them, but that's what Ulead calls 'em), I figured out that if you burn them without a menu then they will playback flawlessly on the 360.

The only thing I remember hearing is the audio fix is separate from the dashboard update.

All that has been said is that the HD DVD update (decoupled from the Dashboard update) should be available before The Matrix comes out...Amir has said over at AVS that it is in the final stages of testing and once that was done it would be released.....

I got the dashboard update at 7am this morning on my Elite.

It did NOT fix the problem with DVE.

Apparently they de-coupled the spring update and the hd-dvd update. There hasn't been a hard date announcement from MS, besides the generic "coming soon" they've been saying for the past 5 monthes.

Ah, thanks much. Haven't had a chance to download it yet and was wondering what I could look forward to, and it doesn't seem to be an aspect of the update that MS is interested in talking about in any of the write-ups I could find.

What problem does it have with DVE? I just picked the disc up but haven't tried it yet.

I dont believe that was needed as "soon" has yet to be disproved. Amir has hinted that the update was in the final stages of testing and that it should be released before the Matrix comes out on the 22nd....I personally would rather have them test the update and make sure it works before releasing it, then have them release it sooner and get something else FUBARd....

The dashboard update was not intended to fix HD DVD playback it is the Add On update that was intended to do that...I think many people forgot or didnt know that it had been decoupled and that the HD-DVD fix would come with the separate update for the Add On specifically....

Amir has been stating since last November that the patch will be out in "weeks". I guess if you work for MS, weeks to them = half a year.

I know "It takes a while to fix the problem and he has no control over it, bla bla bla"

My answer - Don't bs to us about the release date. Oh of course he would, he doesn't want the add on returned back to the stores.
