My connection is HDMI-HDMI.
|
Updated last night.
- Took roughly about 45-50 minutes via my Wireless Gaming Adapter (Linksys) - Unplugged the unit for a couple of minutes after the update was complete - Reconnected and went into the setup menu to "Initialize" - After the intialization, I had to reconfig the V.output to "HDMI" - Watched "Children of Men" flawlessly. :D Connection is HDMI to HDMI |
Well, Im updating now with HDMI-DVI... Will report if I have any issues.
|
HDMI-HDMI for me.
|
So far no problems here with my HDMI-DVI... I dont thin the fw shortened the load time at all though.
|
Loaded 2.1 this morning. HDMI->DVI is busted for me, too.
My setup A1->PJTX100 projector. If I had an HDMI switch or receiver, I would try that, but I don't. One user on AVS reported that with an HDMI capable receiver in the path, everything worked fine. As soon as he connected directly from A1 to display, he loses video. Time to call Toshiba. |
Hmmm... Well mine does go through a reciever, so. But I have to say, I have never had any of the problems people have had with the A1 (knock on wood...)
|
I'm having absolutely ZERO playback issues w/2.0... I don't think I've had a single disc that has skipped or had any problems. So I think I'm skipping 2.1. I don't see anything here that would improve my experience, so I'm not going to roll the dice.
|
I opened a file with Toshiba rgarding the 2.1 HDMI/DVI issue. The guy was really nice but at the end of the conversation suggest upgrading to 2.1 firmware. :helpme: He said 2.1 is better than 2.0 ecause of HDMI handsake problems.
|
since I run HDMI --> DVI direct to the tv I think I'm skipping this update for now.

I have zero issues with 2.0 as well. I played Hollywoodland flawlessly.
Is there still a known black crush issue with the HDMI output? That's the only reason I haven't been using HDMI. My last TV was calibrated for the component inputs so I wasn't using HDMI-DVI on that anyway, but I have a new display with multiple HDMI ports, so I've been considering using HDMI now. |
I was wondering, and it probably doesnt make a difference but to hook my HDMI A1 to my DVI TV I use a 3 ft cord that has HDMI input on one side and a DVI input on the other. I just notice in Bestbuy today that there was an actual adaptor you can use. I wonder if there is any difference in these two. Reason why I ask is that I have never had any of the issues with HDMI to DVI and I'm using the cord. How many of you with the issues are using the adapter or the cord? It would be interesting to see if there is a difference and this may be where the problem is? I doubt it, but thought I would throw it out there.

I'm using an adapter and I had issues until I discovered that it wasn't screwed tightly enough into the back of my projector! Whoops. At the same time, however, I changed my setup to run the HDMI into my receiver and then an HDMI from there into the HDMI/DVI adapter on my projector. I had previously been running HDMI from A1 straight into the HDMI/DVI adapter on the projector. No troubles since . . . |

(HDMI basically is DVI with some tweaks.) Both the cables and adapters do the same thing, they just take the HDMI connection and rearrange the pins into a DVI connection. The cable is in fact probably slightly better than an adapter since there are fewer physical contacts for the signal to traverse. |
so, I jusy had a thought. if I update my firmware to 2.1 and it no longer works with DVI maybe I can convince the wife that we really need a new tv with HDMI in order to get everything working properly. ;)
hell, maybe I should go ahead and update to an HDMI receiver as well just to be safe. :) seriously though, I keep going back and forth about trying the firmware since I do have a Toshiba tv and I'm sure they tested the player on their own tvs, right? ...right? |

Well, I downloaded this and watched a problematic scene with Superman Returns. It still froze and skipped, but at least it didn't require me to reboot the machine. Needless to say, I'm pretty disappointed that the problems are still present.

Toshiba or WB needs to get off their ass resolve it NOW! If it continues, might be easier to import non-combos (if they include True HD) or simply by a PS3/BD Titles. |
