2.1 firmware for A1/XA1 is available

UPDATE April 4: Avs forum members reporting MAJOR HDMI->DVI issues and even some HDMI-HDMI issues. As in NO PICTURE.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=829279

-------
My original post from yesterday.
Frequently Asked Questions:

Q1. What does this update do?

A1. This firmware update adds support for certain anticipated network delivered content in future HD DVD discs, improves certain video and audio processing capabilities, as well as addresses certain disc playback and HDMI/DVI related problems identified by Toshiba.

Q2. The HDMI output does not work or works intermittently with the HDMI or DVI input on my HDTV or monitor. Does the new firmware address that problem?

A2. The firmware update addresses and improves HDMI and DVI connectivity. If you still experience problems, try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable. Make sure your display input is set to HDMI (or DVI). If your display has more than one HDMI/DVI input, make sure that all connected HDMI/DVI source devices are powered on (even if not in use). If none of these solve the problem, please turn off the TV and the HD DVD player. Check all connections. Disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable. Turn on the TV first and then turn on the HD DVD player. Should you continue to experience problems, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319-6684.

Q3. During HD DVD playback I sometimes experience pixelization, block noise or audio dropouts. Sometimes playback stops. Sometimes, playback is not smooth. Does the new firmware address these issues?

A3. This firmware update, which includes material from prior updates, addresses various playability issues. You should also check to be sure that the disc is clean and, if the disc will not operate at all, that you are inserting the disc with the right side up. Should you continue to experience problems, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319-6684.
HDMI/DVI - YES! I need this one.
playback issues - keeping fingers crossed that this will allow me to play rental discs.

Finally! Everything I've read on AVS regarding 2.1 was disc playback is supposed to be greatly improved. Those shitty glitches should cease after 2.1.....*fingers crossed*.

Hopefully, this will fix any problems people may have with the first generation players.

It's available right now if you have your A1/XA1 connected to the internet.

No need for a CD (which is supposed to be 3 weeks).

Well, I'm trying to download it now. It's been sitting at 0% for a while. Servers are probably hammered.

One AVS member says his update took 20 minutes. He had playback issues with Hollywoodland on his A1. That's now corrected. He also says the boot time is a bit faster.

The A1 is slow and a bit glitchy, but it's still a damn fine player. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. It's a well built machine.

Agree 100%. I've had only one major issue with my A1, and it turned out to be a defective copy of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.. so I can't blame that on the player.

It's been very good to me.

I don't have mine connected to the net, so I called for a disc this afternoon. They told me 3 weeks as well, plus another week for shipping.

Ironically, that's something that's fixed with 2.1 . . .

I have never had any HDMI problems until this update.

DVD - HDMI erro 0
HD DVD - No HDMI link

I tried everything in the FAQ. Guess I will be calling Toshiba tomorrow.

UPDATE: I having the HDMI -> DVI issue so I switch component and HDMI/DVI cable between HD DirecTiVo and A1. Atleast I have video from everything again.

On the brightside, Happy Feet had just a brief hiccup at 28:49 instead of complete lockup.

Here's to Toshiba fixing this issue quickly.

Mine was ok too. Of course I only tried one HD-DVD after updating it. I'll test a few more when I get home later.
