Any chance we can push this theoretical disaster off until July? There are at least 25 movies I'm very much anticipating that are scheduled at the moment. In particular, the Big Lebowski, Lost in Translation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Matrix and Midnight Run, just to name some of my most highly anticipated.
After that, I would be happy to enjoy the collections that I have on the players that I have. I'd probably buy a few extra machines as I have done in the past to tide me over for a while.
My habits have changed dramatically since HD DVD arrived last April (and BD thereafter). I no longer have much of an appetite for SD DVD. I have finally managed to do what I have always wanted to do, but was always too impulsive to be successful at in the past. At this point, the secondary market is so saturated with SD DVD's that have barely been watched once that I just wait a week or two and get most any SD DVDs that I want in that manner. Generally I feel better about paying less as I will likely buy a new HD copy when it arrives (Blood Diamond, Marie Antoinette, etc...).
I think the studios are already seeing that they desperately need HD to be successful to continue their strong home video financial trends at anywhere near the levels they experienced over the last bunch of years. Given that, these HD formats aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
