PS3 Playback problems

Is anyone else having problems with the PS3 playing BD disc. I don't think I have watched a single movie that has not paused during playback at least one time during the movie. After about 5-10 secs the movie starts playing agan and usually is skipped foward a few seconds.

It is quite bothersome. Despite other people's problems I have never had any problems like this with my A1.

My PS3 has never had a problem playing a BD or a DVD (or a game but I only own one). Have you upgraded to the newest firmware?

There was another thread on here (sorry, i don't remember which one) that said the freezeup may be due to the wireless being enabled. I did have 1 dvd and 1 BR freeze up, but after I read that I disconnected it, and since then they have been playing just fine. I'm not sure if the updated firmware has anything to do with it though.

I have also had the same problems since I started going online, I looked it up last night and alot of people are stating to disable the network when playing dvds or bluray movies. Hadnt tried it out yet, would have made my viewing of Casino Royale hassle free

Hopefully this can be fixed via firmware update

I haven't had it happen yet, but apparently this wi-fi causing skipping thing happened with firmware 1.5 and hasn't been fixed. It only takes an extra few seconds to disable the wi-fi so I'm not too worried. Maybe the 1.6 firmware will finally fix this.

Mine is hooked up with a cable. That may be why I have had no problems.

I am running firmware 1.54 and I had the problem last night while watching casino royale.. froze about 3 times for about 4-5 secs. After searching through google, the temp fix is to disable wireless internet until a fix comes out. Hopefully they'll fix it soon. Seems to be a common problem.. found about 4 or 5 forums discussing it.

Yep, I had that problem too but once I disabled the network connection, no more freezing. It's a very common issue that hopefully will be addressed with a firmware update. In the meantime, it's not a huge inconvience to just disable the connection when you want to watch a movie.

I had mine freeze up during The Prestige. I have my PS3 hardwired (60GB model). Not sure if wireless is truly disabled though.

I had suspected it might have something to do with the WiFi. Thanks for all the comments. I probably should have searched a little bit, but at least maybe this will help some people out.

Was having the same problem....long pauses during BR playback...then I noticed that the wifi light on the unit was blinking like crazy. Disabled the wifi and no problems since then.

EDIT: Never had this problem until upgrading from 1.5 to 1.54.

Mine freezes at least once during a movie. I was just watching The Marine (pretty bad movie) and it froze up during one scene.

If you have a 60gb model, try disabling the wireless (or the Internet connection) before playing a movie and see if that makes a difference. It's been reported many times to clear up skips.

I am on my second PS3...returned the first one because of the Blu-Ray playback freeze and now my just out of the box PS3 is doing the same thing with brand new discs (Casino Royale and Blackhawk Down)...my PS3 isnt even hooked up to the internet yet so that cannot be the problem...i wonder if i should return this new PS3 because it is a hardware problem or if it is a firmware problem?..

Is the network connection disabled though? I would make sure it is disabled in the options menu even if you haven't set it up to your router yet.

I had gotten the pause pretty regularly on just about every disc unless I disable the net connection. However I just got finished watching my 5-6th movie (Italian Job) since the lastest upgrade and no freezing. And I have ran the net connection solid since the upgrade.

Don't know if the upgrade fixed it or not, but I don't seem to be having problems any more.

I disable it out of habit now, but I may start leaving it on just to see if it still happens.

I believe I had a few issues in 1.6. Casino Royale and The Prestige had the 10 second delay in video. Only happened once, so not a big issue.

I'm having what seems to be a different playback problem (searched the forum, that's how I found this thread)... I've played a number of BR movies with no problem -- Casino Royale, POTC:CotBP, Hellboy -- and just got Weeds:S1. Everything on the Weeds disc, including menus, has "jittery" audio and video (audio has silent "gaps" that appear to be occuring at a fairly steady rate of 2-3 Hz, video is steady with no blank spots, but jumpy, as if frames are being dropped at a similar steady rate). Any thoughts?

Aside from lack of software I have to say that my PS3 has not had any problems at all.

I've had a few movies that didn't play on the PS3:

Lady in the Water
Fantastic 4: Rise of Silver SUrfer

I figure the PS3 was doing me a favor, though.

Is there any way to do a firmware upgrade if my PS3 isn't connected to the internet???
