All the reviews from the first few months would be from before the PS3 came out, so they can probably be forgiven for not knowing the final release specs of the machine.

& the newer ones don't say anything & make it sound like they're actually using the Lossless DTS, which no player plays?- "It's a Fox release, so you get the expected DTS HD 5.1 Master Lossless Audio track, and this time around it's a fantastic one." -Courage Under Fire review. So you mean that pretty much every review on this site that includes DTS HD is wrong?
Apparently. The reviews are either written by people who are mistaken, like you were, that they were listening to the full DTS HD track instead of the core, or they were written by people glossing over the fact that they don't have the playback capabilities, reasoning that the DTS HD track is going to at least sound better than the core DTS they can listen too. Or it's just unclear writing.

And don't people say DTS sounds better on dvds because they "sweeten" the sound somehow?
People used to say that, back when DTS created their own mixes of the soundtracks for DTS tracks. Nowadays the studios typically use the same mix for all their tracks, whether DD, DTS, PCM, DTS HD, or TrueHD. So given the same mix and same sample rate, the only thing that can make an audio track sound different is the compression used, and since PCM, DTS HD MA, and TrueHD are all equal in terms of audio information lost (i.e. none), they're equal in terms of sound quality.

The Devil Wears Prada and Kingdom of Heaven

"The movie's soundtrack is provided in lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 format. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing no Blu-ray hardware is capable of properly decoding the full Master Audio lossless codec. Instead, players extract the lossy DTS core, which is equivalent to DVD quality. It still sounds very good, but may offer further improvements when advanced hardware is released in the future."

Unless you've gone to the trouble of comparing the raw data yourself, please stop spreading FUD.
I'm not tryng to spread FUD. I have a legitimate concern. I want to know if it would be worth getting one track over another.

Unfortunately, there aren't enough comparisons except for the Departed to make a decision on which one is better if any.

Have you been able to do a comparison yourself on the Departed HD-DVD vs the BD version?
So far the reviews that I've read have stated that the uncompressed track was slightly better, but everyone keeps saying "The volume was different" or "There ears are different. I guess it would take a double blind test of audiophiles to ever truly find out which one is indeed better.

Amir from Microsoft over at AVS posted that in the case of The Departed that the TrueHD had dialogue normalization processing added to it. The PCM track on the BD is the raw audio found on the master, for better or worse. I doubt you could hear much difference between the two, but the dialogue normalization would be the reason if there were any.

Wow. From what I have read from Amir, I can't imagine a more baseless mischaracterization.

Look at who said it.

Having MET Amir, I can't imagine a more baseless mischaracterization. It seems like anyone who is even remotely a BD fanboy loves to crap all over him.

I could name at least 20 AVS BD-fanatics who fit that bill easily.

I actually like Amir. He definitely has an agenda but he is very detailed and forthcoming in his writings. I'll give him credit for that. He has made a couple of statements which turned out to be false ("BD50 will never see the light of day" for example) but I don't think he made them with the intention of lying. I've learned an awful lot about codecs thanks to him, and while I may disagree with some of his opinions I always enjoy reading his posts.

He never made that statement. That was BD boys interpretation of his statement.

Sony has annouced new receivers due out in the coming weeks. http://news.sel.sony.com/en/press_ro...ase/28268.html

The presee release talks about HD 1080p support over HDMI but does not clearly state the received will accept or decode Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD. Is just says they will support HD Audio. Is it safe to assume they will?

("BD50 will never see the light of day"

Maybe he meant never see the light of day the same way dvd never really "never seen the light of day" when it came to dual sided dual layer dvds.

As for me and the audio, oh I dont know nm its late lol.
