Anyone tried new LG hybrid player?
Was in BB ad this week and was wondering if anyone got it and what they thought.
I let out a sigh when I saw it was released if it works well and the price comes down it might be where I finally take the jump someday.
But in my expierence when you get something that does 2 jobs usually you lose something.
Not always but just curious how it performs.

Remember? This is the HD DVD-crippled (hD DVD-lite, depending on how you want to say it). It's got full BD features AFAIK, but the HD DVD side is compromised.
You just reminded me that there's a full page ad for it in the new Entertainment Weekly. I was going to scan it and post it here.

By "full BD features", do you mean it actually has BD-J capabilities? Isn't that a first for a BD component player?
Geoffrey Morrison at Home Theater Magazine is supposed to have his review posted some time this week . . .

That $400 then buys you, what? Twenty titles?

I really don't like the concept of an all in one player that is inferior and more expensive than two separate players. I'm crossing my fingers for a Denon that does HD DVD/Blu-ray/DVD/SACD/DVD-A/CD and does them all very well. I'll pay $1500+ for that player.

It certainly plays back movies very well but ... don't you want a little more than that from a $1200 player?

You mention its known lack of HDi support, but let me again put forward my previous question: does it actually support BD-J? If not, then it really isn't fully functional for EITHER format.

If this gets cheaper and more reliable, it'll make me finally make the jump to HD. I would like it to also play DVD-Audio and SACD though. I like things that can play as many formats as possible- my main DVD player right now is still a Laserdisc/DVD player since I don't have a high-def TV yet.
