The only people who say the PS3 isn't a legitimate Blu-Ray player at this point are the die-hard HD-DVD supporters. The PS3's significance cannot be ignored.

The funny thing is... I ended up purchasing both systems because of the gaming choice (in the future for the PS3) But have recently started replacing my DVD collection with HD's.
I prefer HD over Blu-ray and I wasnt really on any type of bandwagon...
I just cant help but love the extra's on the HD titles - and for some reason it only seems like Sony films are coming out on BR - Most are the weak titles at that...
How is it that Blu-Ray talks about being the dominant format with storage capacity, yet most audio features are minor and there is no extra's to a film that they release but yet charge $30+?
Someone in a different post prior said that most filmmakers dont like extra's (Babel post)because they dont like being hassled with them. I've seen that most directors love to talk about the hardships they overcame to produce the features they worked on.
Reflecting on ones accomplishments is something the human race has come to be known for - EGO's.
Also copy protection with Blu-Ray is supposely superior, So is that why you charge $10+ more for your exact same films you release on HD? I could've sworn that both formats were hacked here recently! hmm..
I like the fact of not having a region encoding also; It just creates more a collectible type market on these films... Who doesnt wanna hunt down something thats phenomenially awesome thats only avaliable in Japan? (( EQULIBRIUM & THE MACHINIST!!!))
Where's Spider-Man at for Blu-Ray? I thought this was their money maker?
I dont want to down grade anything that Sony is doing with thier BR tech, I mean they must have shown Disney & Lion Gate something nice (ahhemm... insentives... mmm) to sign exclusively. The Descent disc was very nice!
Just to give another something to Blu-Ray - I like thier... uhh... Blue Cases. lol
Why hasnt Lucas, Speilberg signed anything up, Are they just waiting for the $h!t to settle?
Am I bias? I would like to think not.
lmfao

The PSP sold UMD's like CRAZY....now they are clogging shelves and being sent back for credit from places like Wal-Mart, Target, etc.
like the quality of the BDs is going to change. Once they've played one (assuming
it's one that looks good and not just the pack in) they'll continue to purchase/rent
them over SDs. UMDs weren't even up to videotape quality (they just looked
passable due to the tiny screen), were overpriced for what they were (especially
when compared to the nearby DVD of the same titles) and had little to no special
features. Sure they're getting their feet wet due to the drought of games, but
once in, as long as the product is worthwhile they'll stay.

It's more heavily supported than any other standalone player. Considering the confusing jumble that passes for BD specs, I think that alone is reason to go for a PS3.

No matter what happens in the format war, the PS3 is the most future proof. They won't stop making them, but if BD were to lose, I doubt Samsung and the rest would keep producing players. It will also get the most attention via firmware since it's a Sony product and they will make sure it's up to par.
