Here's the nice thing about BB's replacement plan though: it reimburses your full purchase price. Let's say, 23 months from now, you have some little nagging problem with your PS3. No, it's called using the plan like everyone should. If they cared about their replacement plans being abused, they would change the terms. And I always follow the rules of the plan. For instance, technically, you aren't supposed to return the item to the store. You are supposed to call the 800 # in the brochure and they will send you a voucher to mail the item back to them. They will inspect it and, if deemed necessary, they will mail you back the voucher for the purchase price. I've never been turned down. The disc read errors on PS2s were a known problem and intermittent, but still annoying. Could I have continued to use my console, sure? Why should I though with the replacement plan. I just made sure to wait for a price drop before I would actually claim it.
Believe me, BB makes a lot of money of their PRPs and PSPs because people forget to use them. I just make sure to take advantage of mine.

I have insurance on my house that is coming for renewal, should I burn the place down so I can get a new one? I would hate to waste all of the premium I spent.
The same for the PSPs at BB. They are insurance in case something goes wrong. People don't use them because they had not problem with their product, not because they are stupid. Perhaps a better term would be "honest". It is reasons like this that I had to contact corporate with the problem on my TV. 5 repairs in a year and they didn't want to replace the set. But I am glad you got your slim PS2.
And to get back on topic, I would probably not get the extended warranty on the PS3. I had NO problems with my PS2, PS1, and various other items I purchased. I did get the warranty on the 360. It all depends on how lucky (or unlucky) you feel and what your past experiences are.

I went ahead and got the plan at Wal-Mart because it was only about $30. (Another effect of getting the 20GB version - the plan cost half what it would with the 60GB because it was under $500.)

How long is the $30 warranty? 2 years? That sounds like a great deal!

I too am buying a PS3 soon. The only reason I want one is for the Blu-Ray DVD player. It's much cheaper than buy a Blu-Ray DVD player. Plus, I want to get Rocky Balboa when it comes out. Hopefully, I'll get it this week.

That makes me pissed off, but for my friend. He purchased the Xbox plan when it first came out, and he had hard drive failure. His Xbox was legitimately fried. He paid 300 for the system, and now he goes to bring it back. They gave him a new Xbox, but I think it came with 2 games (the new system) and the price had been dropped. They not only didn't give him the 300 check you seem to be getting, but they took out the pack-in game even though the replacement system was cheaper. How on earth are you getting to return systems like that? I don't remember that check back being part of BB's plan.
Oh, and by the way those plans don't start after the manufacturer's warranty unless for speakers. Meaning if you have a year warranty from Sony, you're buying one year extra from Best Buy.

I decided to buy a PS3 yesterday, due to the fact that I want to play Resistance badly, and also because of some Blu-ray exclusives (The Prestige, Stranger Than Fiction, Casino Royale, Monster House, etc.) However, I've yet to open it because I'm not sure of whether or not I should've purchased it from EB Games.
I usually get extended warranties with my consoles, but they were asking $100 per year, for the warranty. Sony supposedly offers a one year warranty on the PS3, so I didn't feel like spending an extra hundred on another one. I'm questioning my thinking on that, but I'm also wondering about other available warranties.
Do any of you have any idea about Best Buy or Future Shop and their warranties on PS3s, here in Canada?

From what I've heard, only a composite cable comes with the PS3. All component cables and/or HDMI cables are sold separately.
I may have heard wrong though. I haven't opened my PS3 yet, so I can't say for sure.
