About to buy a PS3...some Questions for ya

Okay,
I consider myself a hardcore gamer and an avid movie watcher. I thought I could hold out on getting a PS3 because none of the games interest me at the moment. But, with The Departed(cheaper on BD) and mainly Casino Royale coming to blu-ray, I just gonna go ahead and get one tonight at Best Buy.

Questions:
-I have an HDMI cable so is that all I need to get my video and audio coming out of my PS3, or do I need an optical cable as well?
-Are there any other "must have" accessories I need to pick up with my purchase? (controller cable for charging, etc.)
-should I get the Best Buy warranty?

1. HDMI will pass the audio to your TV.
2. It comes with a controller and the cable that you use to charge it up. I don't think you really "need" anything else out of the box.
3. Totally up to you.

I grabbed the remote control for mine, and glad I did. Only $24.99 at Best Buy, and it's a must-have in my opinion.

Thanks, I might have to pick that up since I have about $25 in rewards zone coupons anyway.

If you have/had a PS2 and want to continue progress in games, you would have to get the memory card adapter to transfer data to the PS3's hard drive.

I would suggest holding on to a PS2 for PS2 games, though. The PS3 has apparently destroyed some PS2 game saves.

Well, I went to Best Buy ... and I chickened out.

Sad to say this but I just wasn't feelin it tonight. I guess it's basically because I have a HD-DVD player and really the only reason I want a PS3 is for Casino Royale, and maybe F-1 which is coming out at the end of the month. I think I'm gonna wait til I get back from vacation at the end of this month to actually pull the trigger. Thanks for the pointers though, I know I will eventually get one soon enough.

Casino Royale is the main reason I wanted a PS3. But there are lots of really good titles announced over the next few months. If Fox/MGM would ever lower their prices and slap on a few more extras, my Blu-ray collection would grow exponentially.

I thought about buying one for a while, but wasn't going out of my way to look for one. When I did get one, it was more of an impulse purchase than anything else. I also grabbed Resistance, which was so-so, but I love the BluRay selection and now own twice as many BD's as HDDVDs even though I had the 360 add-on for 2 months longer. BD titles is where it's at for me, and if my PS3 is just a BD player for now, so be it, I'll be good to go when some decent games come out.

I've had my PS3 for a month and a half and I have yet to even play a game on it(not counting downloaded demos). Although that'll finally change this week with Virtua Fighter 5.

It's pretty much a Blu-ray player that I'll occasionally play SACDs and PS3/PS2 games on. Which makes it a pretty good deal at 500 bucks.

It's a Formula One racing game that looks pretty good. Motorstorm is also another racing game which comes out in March.

Thank God for the Blu Ray player. If it wasn't for that I'd have a $600 brick sitting in my entertainment center. I have a whopping 2 PS3 games, Resistance and Full Auto2 that don't get much play because the online stuff kinda blows right now. I do play some old PS2 games on it like Okami and DMC but the PS3 gets nowhere near the use that my 360 does.

I have high hopes that Sony will have some killer apps and more advanced user friendly online capability coming out within the next year to further justify spending 600 bucks on this thing. Blu Ray was a perk for me which I enjoy thoroughly but I want more bang for the buck!!

Am I asking for too much of Sony??

Wait until you see the concept demo for Gran Turismo HD. I am anxiously awaiting all three of these games.

The full version of Gran Turismo HD has been cancelled. Instead, the developers are going to work directly on Gran Turismo 5, but who knows when that will come out.

Well, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a PS3 today.

I'm now officially part of the club which own both HD-DVD & Blu-ray.

I only picked up The Departed on Blu-ray with my purchase, I'll look to get a remote later if I feel the need.
But, I'm glad I finally got it because it's one of those purchases you can't stop thinking about until you finally actually bring it home.

Wow, that is a great deal. I'd like to pick up the 60GB version as well for that price. I heard a rumor that they are planning on lowering the prices on the PS3..any idea when that might be?

Also, my only real issue witht eh PS3 is that my Harmony 890 isn't compatible with it. Is it true Harmony is coming out with one that will be?

How can they afford to drop the price? I thought they were already bleeding money with every PS3 they sold . . .

Get the blu-ray player remote control. It makes like so much easier and plus it's only 25 bucks. That's a lot cheaper than a blu-ray movie. I suggest you buy the extended Best Buy warranty. In case anything goes wrong, you can exchange it for a brand new systems at Best Buy. IMO, it's worth it.
