I hear the transfer is very good! Not perfect, but very good.

People have confirmed its Region A and should work in all PS3's ect.

Or you can wait until Aug. 09 for it to hit the states :)

If you're a really big fan, this can be had for around $41 at Axel Music. It's Region Free, removable subtitles, and plays in the Playstation 3.

It looks fantastic too.

By biggest wish is some really good sales so I can get caught up on some Ive missed this past year (plus for some of the new ones coming out)... Unfortunately the budget is a bitch right now.

I'd give anything for:

TOMMY (1975 - sony/columbia)

HEAVY METAL (1981 - sony/columbia)

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (1975 - fox)

Sling Blade
Dazed & Confused (Criterion)
The Big Lebowski

1.) Criterion releases of Kurosawa is my number 1 request. Wes who? We already have Bottle Rocket, it's time for make way for Kurosawa!

2.) A Criterion BD-Live network. Hopefully something like WB's BD-Live community, such that we can have commentary from the experts, historians, DPs, which aren't on the DVD itself. I'm sure Criterion could do something awesome with this.

3.) In 2009...improve BD-Live all around. WB's TDK disc showed the potential, but what's with the windowboxing? The streaming? More studios should allow us to download the features.

4.) Rush Hour 1 and 2. I love these movies, I'd buy the trilogy set. (I think this is coming, according to some inserts).

5.) Jackie Chan movies in general, in particular Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, and the stuff before the 2000s or so.

6.) Like someone else said, Dragon Dynasty titles in Blu!

7.) Pixar. If they do 1 or 2 releases a year I'll be fine with that, as long as they're definitive. Looks like that will probably be the case, Bug's Life, and hopefully something in the Fall.

8.) Deadwood, Wire, Rome complete series sets!

9.) More animation in general. This is a stretch, but I would like to see Disney Treasures (including their live action), Popeye sets, Looney Tunes in Blu.

10.) Sergio Leone: mainly Colossus of Rhodes and the Eastwood movies.

11.) TV Shows. Not as many people are going to buy a random season 3 or season 5 set in Blu if the previous seasons aren't available!

I'm probably forgetting a lot of things, but if I got the above list, I can forget them for another year. :)

Giles 12-29-08 11:29 AM

1) Prospero's Books
2) The Boyfriend
3) The Devils
4) Playtime [direct 65mm transfer]
5) Little Shop of Horrors (Frank Oz remake) (w/ alternate ending, of course)
6) It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
7) 8 Diagram Pole Fighter
8) The Innocents
9) Mario Bava's films
10) Gojira

Very strong ditto to that! Also, I'd love to see any Hitchcock set, but particularly Rear Window, Psycho, North by Northwest, The Birds, etc.

Totally with you on that one. I know Robert Harris was working on getting the "complete" version of the film restored...and given that there are so many different cuts of this film (and deleted material) it seems perfect for Blu. I think the technology will allow for multiple cuts on one disc, with branching. I would love to see it.

I have a couple of movies on my 2009 BD Wish-list: The Last of the Mohicans (1992) starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe and The Age of Innocence (1993) starring Day-Lewis and Michelle Pfeiffer. When both movies are released on BD, all will be well in the universe.

I'd add The Silence of the Lambs, however, that's already been announced.

I'd rather see TBB, FoF and WotD in HD than that POS. It had nothing to do with the real Bruce Lee or the book it was based on.

Actually I always liked Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story it had Lauren Holly (she's from around here). But I will agree that it wasn't very biographical.

A high quality player with a finished spec for a decent price.

I read "The Beach" and thought it was "Breach"...which is a flick I would love to see on Blu.

Will City of Ember be released on Blu-ray?

I did a search and came up with almost nothing about City of Ember, except for a thread about the horrible box office results, which might help answer my question. I see the DVD version listed as coming out January 20, but nothing about a Blu release. Amazon lists it as currently not available. So, does anyone have any information on a future Blu-ray release?

Re: Will City of Ember be released on Blu-ray?

There has been no announcement made as of yet, but it does not look likely - mostly because of the horrible box office...Financially it probably doesn't make sense for them to put it out on BD.

Nope...they skipped over College as well.

Re: Will City of Ember be released on Blu-ray?

It is coming to Blu-ray in the U.K.

I'm not sure if it's region free or not though. If it is, I expect I will be importing yet another title.

Re: Will City of Ember be released on Blu-ray?

my store database has a release date of 12-31-2009 so looks like a no.

City of Ember - Blu-Ray ?

Why did 20th Century Fox release City of Ember on 1-20-09 on DVD but not on Blu-Ray? I was really wanting this one.

Gizmo 01-21-09 03:44 PM

Re: City of Ember - Blu-Ray ?

Poor Box Office numbers probably stopped this from coming out in Blu.

Re: City of Ember - Blu-Ray ?

It is being released in the UK on blu-ray but no word if it's region free yet. If it is, I will be making a purchase.

I mentioned this in the announcement thread, but this really sucks. I thought this was the best family movie of 2008 and I can't believe it didn't get a BD release.

I certainly hope that they release this one on Blu Ray. My dad saw it with my nephews when it came out and he highly recommended it. My daughter wants to see it as well, but it would be disappointing to have to buy this on DVD. After going blu DVD can look pretty weak.

Yeah, I've heard good things about this movie as well. It's just that Fox really screwed up the marketing for this movie.

Any word on ANY of these ??

Being that none of these movies were ever relased anamorphically on DVD (R1), is there any word on a BR release ???

-The Abyss
-Strange Days
-Bronx Tale
-Armageddon
-Basketball Diaries
-Dead Presidents
-Can't Buy me Love
-Scream

not at the top of my list, but would be nice....
-My Blue Heaven
-Nothing But Trouble
-54

I haven't heard anything. I'm definately looking forward to The Abyss & Armageddon tho.

Re: Any word on ANY of these ??

It would be nice if Armageddon has the Criterion extras when it does finally come. That had one of the best gag reels ever.

Anyone remember the movie Creator with Peter O'Toole? I would love to see that get released. I don't think there is even a widescreen version of that in Region 1, much less anamorphic.

I wouldn't be too worried, I think it will happen....look at the BD of "The Rock" as a guide, another Michael Bay blockbuster that only had a Criterion release for a SE on DVD, but had (basically) all of its special features carried over....
