I think we'll see that one before too long. Paramount has been good about releasing the Dreamworks Spielberg titles lately, with Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report, and War of the Worlds.

As for Universal, which distributes titles like Jaws, Jurassic Park, and E.T., that's been a different story. Wouldn't Jaws have been a perfect candidate this summer for a 35th anniversary release?

I think Universal is still bitter over Blu-ray winning the format war. I'm still waiting on Out of Sight with hopefully the exact same transfer.

I watched Jaws the other night too and agree. As someone who was around that summer there really were people afraid to go in the water because of that movie.

Very surprised also that we did not see a 35th anniversary release of Jaws this year. The film's DVD releases came on its 25th and 30th anniversaries. A BD would have been nice.

I see that Pirates of Penzance (1983—Linda Ronstadt, Kevin Kline) is finally getting a DVD release on September 14. I would have liked to see it on Blu-ray Disc as well. But if it took this long to make it to DVD I guess it is much too obscure for BD.

Thought I was done with buying DVDs, save for TV sets. Guess not.

Just these please:

More Hitchcock: Vertigo, Rear Window and to Catch a Thief
Some Steve McQueen favorites: Great Escape, Papillon and The Thomas Crown Affair
My guilty pleasure: The Black Stallion (the islands scenes will look fantastic in HD)

I'm hoping for Christoper Nolan's debut film Following at some point.

I watched Westworld for the first time on HD Net last night - looked good. I'd def pick it up if WB put out a BD.

Team America and the Lemony Snicket movie were in an ad on Paramount's first titles on HD DVD and BD. So, they were apparently planned more than 4 years ago, yet still haven't been released.

The Bird People in China is such a bizarre yet beautiful film. It's a real shame that this release got lost in the shuffle, because the visual imagery would've benefited greatly from the high-definition treatment -- especially considering the lackluster VHS-to-DVD treatment on ArtsMagic's 2004 presentation.

Re: Your Blu-ray wish list / "When will _______ be on Blu-ray?"

Since many of my most wanted have been announced I'm updating my list. Many of these are titles that will be part of a two-fer at best but that's fine.

Bev Hills Cop - ready for a better version of this set
Big Red 1 - love war films and would be one of the few discs I already upgraded on DVD and would upgrade again to Blu
Bugsy - was disappointed in both the picture quality and film quality of the SE extended edition
Die Hard 4 (R) - argue all you want, I like the R rated version better and want it on Blu
Gettysburg - my old flipper got scratched and never replaced
Gross Point Blank - fun movie that is non-anamorhic right now
Honeymoon in Vegas - I get a kick out of the flying Elvis', would make a nice 2 pack with Family Man or Trapped in Paradise
Jurrasic Park - rumored but not announced
Memphis Belle - another great war movie that has never had a decent release
Midway - I love war movies
Pearl Harbor (R) - like this cut of the movie better
Planes Trains & Automobiles - one of my favorite comedies
Stripes - Bill Murray, priceless
Sleepless in Seattle - favorite Rom-com
TinCup - fun golf movie
Tora,Tora, Tora - need all my war movies on Blu
TrueLies - never delivered the 5 star edition they promised
US Marshalls - crappy first gen disc
While You Were Sleeping - really crappy first gen disc

I know that the quality wouldn't improve much, but I'd love to see Batman The Animated Series and the Superman animated series on blu-ray. And throw Static Shock in there, too.

I just wish Universal would get off their ass and release all their titles they previously released on HD DVD:

Out of Sight
The Big Lebowski
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Lost in Translation

just to name a few.

The thought occurred to me last night: Where in the world is "Death Becomes Her"? This is a CLASSIC Robert Zemeckis movie with Bruce Willis in it! And it's only available on DVD in FULL FRAME. Which I never purchased, and I'm sure many who would have avoided too because of this. A Blu-ray (even if bare-bones) would be incredible!

This was on HBOHD a few months ago. Nothing stunning but it does show they have an OAR master.
