Lions Gate in HD over XBOX Live
Lions Gate just released some movies in HD over XBOX Live.
-An American Haunting
-Hard Candy
-The Blair Witch Project
-Made
-Cecil B. Demented
-A Requiem for a Dream
-The Descent
-See No Evil
The Descent has my interest, but I think rentals are like 480 points (or $6ish) for a RENTAL only. You do NOT own the movie, just a rental.

I think it actually STREAMS the movie for you, so you don't have to wait hours for it to download.

No, it downloads the movie. I rented a movie, and it downloaded to my hard drive. You have like a week or two to watch it, or when you press play to watch the movie you only have 24 hours to watch it, which ever comes first. After that the movie is still on your hard drive, but you cannot watch it anymore.

$5 for an HD download is not terrible, but it takes so long to download that I would still just prefer to go with Netflix. The biggest problem is 20Gb of storage. MS needs to address this soon.

Here's the quick writeup I did on the Marketplace when it first came out.
I need to go back in there and compare the content offered online vs both BR and HD DVD now though.

I Think you CAN start playing though after it builds up enough buffer though...correct? I'm tempted just to try it, but not sure.
Also, ALL those movies might not be there....I was just reporting what I read. I know TheDescent is, since I was looking around the Marketplace last night.
Tempting, but it's kinda a pricey rental to me.

Are these 720p downloads?

Some movies have both 720p and 480p. Others only have 480.
Yes - it informs you when a show is ready to play. But with a 4+ gig download, don't expect it to be right away. for example last night I got an episode of south park - it was roughly 280mb and didn't become available to play until it was 40% complete.

took me a while to download lady in the water for a movie night... didn't allow me to play until the movie was over. Though I gave it 3 hours lead time...It took from the afternoon into the night and by the time it was done... we were off to bed. Condidering my internet is blazing fast, looks like MS perhaps has network issues or is capping bandwidth... rendering this OD service useless for OD.
