Does the XBox 360 HD-DVD drive output 1080p?

I changed my xbox settings to output 1080p but I'm not noticing any difference on the HD-DVD player from 1080i to 1080p. I noticed a difference in the game lost planet, which runs in 1080p when compared to 1080i.

HD DVDs should be able to output in 1080p over component. Not regular DVDs, though.

1080p works over component, if your set accepts 1080p over component. Not all do.

I believe that 1080 for DVD and HD-DVD is only possible with the VGA cable. 1080p IS available however for gaming over component or VGA. I believe the reason for this is the AACS copy protection.

I'm using component cables, so I guess that explains it.

It also depends on what TV you are using you may NOT notice that much of a difference if you have a "smaller" TV. 1080i and 1080p look very close on TV's under 50" (so I have heard) But if you are using compnent cables then the max it will output is 1080p for games and 1080i for movies.....you can always check (if your tv allows) to see waht the player is outputting when you have a DVD playing

I can confirm that games ARE in 1080p over component with the 360. I dont have the hd add on though. Regular DVDs are not 1080p.

My 360 is set to output at 1080P thru VGA, and my Westy monitor shows 1080P when viewing upconverted SDs on the hd add-on.

funny enough, this is one of the 1st confirmations of that exact thing that I've seen...everyone talks about it being possible, but nobody *does* it.
thanks!

(if only the VGA signal didn't play havoc with my 50" Sony A10...*sigh*...)

Check the customer reviews over at Newegg.com.

Great price on it as well. $189.99 with FREE shipping. No sales tax for most.

I'm assuming it's still packed with the remote and King Kong disc.

Does anyone know if the 360 add-on plays DTS tracks??? It wouldn't play the DTS trackon a standard DVD and I have the audio going to a sound system with DTS capabilities. Just wondering if it will play DTS tracks on HDs

As of now Now, BUT it is rumored that with the next update it will "unlock" this.

If your TV is a fixed-pixel 1080p display, will there be any difference watching a movie from a source that can only output in 1080i as opposed 1080p since the TV displays it in 1080p?

I hope what Im trying to say here is clear
