Question about 360 HD DVD

I purchased the HD DVD drive for the 360 about a month ago. Soon after, I noticed there were pale bars running horizontally on the screen when I watched movies. Once I noticed them, I noticed they were on nearly everything I played in my 360 and the HD DVD drive. HD DVDs and DVDs consistently feature the lines and some XBox360 games do as well. Most original Xbox games too. The Microsoft tech support gave me a "I dunno." and the Sharp tech support (26" LCD) told me it was because I didn't use an HDMI cable and the only input that supported HD DVD was the HDMI input. Microsoft swears that you don't need the HDMI to enjoy high def gaming, so why am I seeing the lines on some of the games as well? I took the Sharp back and now I'm trying to decide what TV I should get to replace it. I destroyed the boxes that went with my Xbox stuff, so I can't return those, so I'd like to find a solution that works with the 360. Has anyone had similar issues? Does anyone know what causes this or if it was a problem with my particular unit as opposed to the model?

Uh the Sharp tech support dude is an idiot. You can't connect the 360 HD DVD player via HDMI because it connects directly to your 360, and your 360 doesn't have a HDMI plug. Maybe it was because you didn't change your settings on the Xbox 360 to 720p/1080i?

Check your cables, see if they are not loose.

Try hooking it up to another TV and see if the lines are there.

If they're not, then it's the TV, if they are, it's the 360.

This is a known problem with some Xbox 360 systems. The only fix for it is to set the 360 to display at 720p.
