re: A2 1080p. Never per se, but there was rumblings that it *may*. They never came right out and said it would not be at some point.

BTW, Adam, I've never known you to be smarmy and sarcastic, so you don't have to post that in the future :)

I'm going to return my A2 back to BB. I purchased it on 12/08/06. But it's still in the box I never opened it. Had some issues with my fathers health. So looks like I will return it tomorrow and wait for the HD-A20 model when it comes out in the spring.

I bet BB will not be happy about this. But at least its still new and in a sealed box.

Engadget is stating the new Samsung player is $799

Mr. Cinema 01-07-07 05:10 PM

Samsung's 2nd gen player is the BD-P1200. I don't see DTS-HD MA or TrueHD support listed.

"One of the BD-P1200 player’s key new features is its Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) processor, which is a powerful unit similar to those used by Hollywood production studios. With its HQV processor, the BD-P1200 player offers true 1080i to 1080p HD de-interlacing, so it can deliver the best HD images possible— even from DVD formats. The player’s HDMI version 1.3 connection helps boost the sound quality (via 7.1-channel Dolby Digital Plus) and deep color. This HDMI connection also offers Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) technology, which enables a single remote control unit to operate the BD player, TV and other A/V products from Samsung. With the BD-P1200 model’s HDMI connections, consumers will get superior audio/video quality, with incredible ease and convenience of use."

"Coming to a Home Near You: Next-Generation BD-P1200 Disc™ Player
Samsung brings consumers a complete home entertainment experience with the new BD-P1200.. The unit will play multimedia content in a variety of different formats including 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions. In addition, the BD-P1200 model supports the 192KHz LPCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, MPEG 2, DTS and MP3 formats for complete versatility in entertainment. The ‘Easy Top Menu’ allows consumers to change the font and color of subtitles and menu titles according to their tastes, as well as the background color and menu graphics. The BD-P1200 model also has backward compatibility, making it simple to manage and play consumers’ media collections."

They may not let you. It will be 31 days tomorrow. Policy is 30 days, and yes, they tend to be sticklers. Good luck.

That's what the specs say. So it's a price increase. For one added feature: the 1080p. Doesn't seem to have the build, RS232, or analog outs of the X series.

Considering the preview of iTV and the current capabilities of the iMacs, that doesn't sound too far-fetched to me. But Apple usually manages to defy prediction when they do something big. And that cover page at apple.com suggests something serious. I just hope it isn't a phone like most people seem to want.

I've seen this mentioned in a few AVS threads. The old Bond movies should be appearing on Blu-ray in Fall '07. I bought the box sets of Volume 1 and 2 already. I'll hold off on 3 and 4 for now.

Tentatively HDMI 1.3, but not final yet.

So do they want to sell these things or not?

But will they have all the extras as well as the original soundtracks for the older films? Blu-ray hasn't been too reliable in either department thus far.

Seriously, why is it so difficult for Blu-Ray to get its players down to a reasonable price? What about it makes it so much more expensive? Two of the models don't even play CDs, nor do they decode the newer audio formats. I don't understand it.

Drexl 01-07-07 08:12 PM

Bear in mind that the info about the Bond movies comes from someone who claims to have spoken to a Sony rep who told him certain movies were coming. It's the one who is creating polls trying to prove that people do not buy BDs at Amazon, which he then uses to say the info on the site that tracks Amazon sales is meaningless. I'll take it with a huge grain of salt.

Supermallet 01-07-07 08:15 PM

Damn, I just bought volume 3 today. Oh well, considering the prices of these announced players it will still be a while before I pick one up.

On that same note, how is it that the rumor of Sony offering a $400 player be true? Who in the right mind would purchase the Sharp one for $1200 over that.

on the same note again, why aren't all blu-ray players up to full spec?

I sold my old collection on ebay for $200....then got a GREAT deal on the new ones (around $40 each)....so, when I wanna upgrade to the BD (if they do come out soon), I can just ebay the new sets.

Christmas return policy says that the 30 days starts after the 25 of December.

Even IF the bond movies were officially scheduled for fall 07, my experiences with previous bond dvd releases would lead me to believe that they would be delayed for 1-3 years after the scheduled release date. But that date is still a big IF

Samisking23 01-07-07 10:15 PM

hmm that is very interesting , in about 15 mins will know if that partnership will mean anything since the HD DVD panel is about to have it's press

Any item bought at best buy from Nov 1 is eligible for extended return - it's some day during the last week of January.

Computers, dvd recorders and some other items only have 14 days regardless of when you bought it
