I do hope the Star Trek movies will also be part of that "over 300 titles" group.
|
Excited about the Departed, now just hope to see some other dates soon...
|
Harry Potter was supposed to be released "during 2006" according to these stupid inserts. And we knew Matrix is coming.
All these things are non-announcements. Here's hoping there's some good news. BTW, the LG on the 360 isn't a surprise. LG trailers have been all over. So have Disney trailers. And Fox. But no Sony, IIRC. |
Article is a bit mislead...
Will shows such as BSG make it onto the marketplace as well, or just HD-DVD media? If BSG were to make it onto XBLMP I'd be buying a 360 tomorrow...well maybe in a few weeks once that new schwanky one comes out. ;) |

Blah, glad I didn't stay up for the press event. Very disappointed so far, but the show hasn't even begun, so hopefully there will be a slew of announcements this week.
|
Well, I expected most of the titles mentioned anyway, although I wasn't sure about them getting all of the Harry Potter movies out.
It will be interesting to see how they handle Star Trek. Will they keep the proper 4:3 aspect ratio, or chop it to 16x9? Will they be available without the new effects? |

Got the complete series on DVD for Christmas and I've been watching them for the first time in many years. The effects shots are really bad... there's a ton of grain in them, they're frequently dark, and badly composited. This was probalby okay when everyone was watching broadcasts on 17" Philcos in the 60s and 70s, but it really sticks out with a decent television. Also, when you're watching episodes back-to-back on DVD, all of the recycled effects shots also get kind of annoying. How many times can the Enterprise go floating past that red planet anyway? |

Warner's announcement looks kind of pathetic compared to Fox and Disney. WB - we want exact titles and dates! We already knew about Matrix, Harry Potter, and Ocean's 11. We also already knew all of your new theatrical releases would get HD DVD releases.

Man, another list of titles that I'd scoop up in a heartbeat. There's 7 on that list that I'd buy....IF they were done right....which they won't be. *sigh*
|
So, I guess I'll be getting a Blu-ray deck sometime soon. :)
|
Anything that WB puts out will probably be on both formats/Total HD...
I wanna see dates/titles from Universal. Both POTC's in May, cool! And I'm all over The Fly & almost all of the new May & June Fox additions. |

The MGM ones are a bit scary. |

The MGM ones are a bit scary. There hasn't been one single Fox title that's been done right. |

Wow, Butch Cassidy? I can't believe Fox is actually releasing something made before the 1980s. It's a baby step, but we'll take it.
MGM (who definitely makes the decisions as to which of their titles get released) continues to announce vintage gems. Let's hope they are done right. It's too bad they're distributed by the one studio who charges $40 MSRP for all titles. |

I have to say, I'm somewhat disappointed in HD DVD right now, or at least the supporting studios. Granted, CES has only officially begun today, but Warner's announcement from yesterday was a major non-event. The Matrix Trilogy, Harry Potter and Ocean's 11 and 12...nothing new there. I am very excited for those titles, but no release dates and no indication of a timeframe doesn't excite me. And titles like Happy Feet, The Departed and Blood Diamond were basically a given, since WB has released virtually every recent theatrical title since Rumor Has It.
Blu-Ray studios, on the other hand, are giving us actual dates and/or timeframes. Plus, they're announcing not-yet-rumored titles, like The Fly, Edward Scissorhands, Cast Away, and even The Graduate (which I know will be an import in March, but still). Will they deliver on these promises? Who knows, but at least they have me excited about 2007. HD DVD's promise of 300 titles is great and all, but when will we get them? There's practically nothing this month, nothing next month.... I know I'm just impatient and I hope that WB, Universal, Paramount, and hopefully Lionsgate, Dreamworks and New Line will prove me wrong this year. And of course, I know that, whatever and whenever they release things, these studios will "get it right" (PQ, AQ, features), which is not a guarantee from the Blu-Ray camp. But strictly speaking in terms of CES announcements so far, HD DVD is leaving a lot to be desired. |
Oh, and give me The Fly, Master and Commander, Edward Scissorhands, Independence Day, Cast Away, The Usual Suspects, Silence of the Lambs, The Graduate, Pirates of the Caribbean: COTBP, Crimson Tide and The Rock.
