It's very old announced titles from HD-DVD PRG in a PR. So yes, there is a source. You must figure that at CES they must be waiting to put dates to these titles. The HD DVD Promotions Group's list seems to consist largely of "has any studio ever mentioned this movie, even in passing two years ago without a word since?". I think it's valid to look at the titles on that list as likely candidates, considering that almost half of the titles from Warner, HBO, Paramount, and Universal at CES '05 have wound up on HD DVD. (37 are on store shelves now, 1 has been announced and will be in-hand before the month's out, and 41 remain outstanding, if I'm counting correctly.) Still, to reference these New Line titles without citing the HDPG's list or any other source makes it sound like inside information, especially after making the unsubstantiated leap that they'll be announced tomorrow, and that's very misleading. |
^^ And there we have it.

Has anyone else had trouble getting onto AVS today? I've been stuck on their main page all day.

For some reason I can only get that website to open with IE. Netscape won't let me in.

This new Toshiba HD DVD player will be announced. The HD-A20 with 1080p at 24 or 60 fps. No 5.1 analog, but the price is lower than the XA2. $599 This certainly sounds like the A2 will definitely drop quickly. Got the info from Robert (VE) at AVS...

I'm going to predict that Apple is launching an HDTV with an iMac built it. I'll be proven wrong soon enough. ;)

Thankfully, with no tax/free shipping/two free movies, Robert certainly built in some room, and I thank him for that. As for this new X20, this suggests two things: 1) the A2 cannot be upgraded through firmware to display 1080p as hoped 2) the new player will not have the SO chip for deinterlacing. |

i'm betting on that price-drop for the a2. i have a feeling i might get that middle one. who knows, at this point, though. |
Yeah, I was all set to get the A2, but after reading this news, I think the A20 might be my choice. But if the A2 ends up being $299 by mid-Summer, then I may bite on that.

AFAIK, the XA2 was the only one announced with 1080p support.
|
There are rumblings in the AVS BD forum that the 2nd-gen Samsung will be priced at $500. Guess we'll find out soon.
|
Looks as though the HD-A20 will be available in Spring of this year. Also, the press releases listed all 3 players at the end with pricing. The A2 still was listed at $499.
Robert (VE) says that 60,000 G2 units have been sold now. |
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is on the official HD DVD page listed as coming soon.

Nice!
