You are correct. The price is a reflection of the costs Wicked paid to produce the title (much higher per disc cost than standard DVD). The standard DVD version of this movie, BTW, costs $29.95, but is only 3 discs.

I'm expecting all adult HD DVD releases to be about this price until replication costs for the studios go down.

You're also correct in that only the feature itself is HD. But it's also a 2 1/2 hour movie, so that's a lot of HD. While the other three DVDs are standard, there's a TON of bonus material...a full disc more than was included with standard, and I believe the standard version approached something like 4 hours of bonus material...so there's probably close to 5 on this one.

Talked to a Wicked's head DVD guy today, and can confirm that "Curse Eternal" will be their next HD-DVD release, although he didn't have a firm release date (guessing 1st quarter 2007).

Yeah, I don't exactly understand the purpose of making a long porn movie. Nobody's watching these things for the story, are they?

Story?

My guess is that it lets them include more types of sex acts, which ends up being "more for your money." With people using the internet more and more for porn, it only makes sense that any individual movie would try to be a one-stop shop, so you can skip to a scene with whatever act you feel like watching at the time.

There's actually been a few HD softcore porn flicks on Cinemax lately. Kinky Kong and some Indiana Jones porn spoof. For those saying that things would look bad, just the opposite. I actually stayed on the channel to watch the whole thing in stunning hd.

1) I'm amazed by all the comments regarding picture clarity (they sound very much like the ones made by people that say regular DVD's are "good enough", most of whom I doubt have even watched a properly set up high definition home theatre). Those of you that think all porn performers have zits, blemishes and razor bumps probably need to check out better porn (the downloaded Bang Brothers crud is admitedly full of such gals though).

2) I've been told the Japanese "HD-DVD" porn was the same pixelated, non-explicit material that shows on late night Cinemax, not something most would call "porn". As far as Camp Cuddly Pines goes, it was one of our top picks on last year's best porn list, the three disc set getting rave reviews from two of us:

The movie is a spoof of horror flicks, with better extras then most mainstream titles, providing a lot of value so the four disc HD version sounds like a perfect first title to release on the format. There are still many porno's released with running times under 90 minutes for around $30 (and weak extras), so it really isn't a bad price for a first effort.

3) JRay, if all the porn companies got together and released solely on one format (either one), it wouldn't have nearly the impact of porn on VHS (thanks to the internet and high speed connections). Keep in mind that some companies still release their titles on VHS (to put it in perspective).

4) It's my understanding that we'll keep the porn together, lest it offend the usual handful of people, but we'll mark them clearly as to which format they are in. My conversations with porn industry insiders will be in full swing in a couple of weeks but I've been told that Blu-Ray if doable but only through a second party, adding significant costs over the already higher costs of the format. DP is supposedly going to hit the ground running with four titles soon, Vivid will dabble, and Wicked will gauge their response based on how well this one sells.

5) I'm getting ready to buy an HD player, new TV, and the whole works soon (trying to decide on the particulars; I keep putting it off so don't hold your collective breaths) but I'm not going to rush the process for a handful of titles. It will be cool getting some of the mainstream stuff along with them though.

6) Suprmallet, the longer movies tend to have similar sex acts in either longer scenes or provide more of them; read a few of the porn reviews for a head's up (especially before jumping in to review HD porn lol).

Believe me, Don, I would definitely not do a porn review blind. But in all honesty, I would gladly review this set, as much out of curiosity as anything else.
