This was one of my favs as a kid, sadly it also didn't survive adulthood and is now waiting to be traded in. I just can't see myself watching it all the way thru either... maybe when I have kids.

They certainly have been quiet as of late and I'm sure the Blockbuster announcement certainly didn't help since their releases are exclusive to BB. I would pick up Black Xmas on BD, but that's probably it for their current releases.

I'd very highly recommend The Matador.

matome 08-03-07 08:32 AM

Hmm...never heard too much about it, but it sounds interesting from IMDB. Kinda has the Tailor of Panama feel it (good thing IMO).

Matador is hilarious.

Amazon is listing an April 8th, 2008 Blu-ray release for Mark Bussler's documentary about George Westinghouse, appropriately titled Westinghouse.

Bussler makes it sound more tentative on his blog, but it does sound like there's a good chance of it coming, and it seems to be Blu-ray-exclusive.

Rusty James 08-05-07 12:32 PM

Pure speculation at this point, but there is a possibility we may be getting some MAJOR titles very soon (Gladiator, Godfather, SPR, Minority Report, Indiana Jones, Forrest Gump, Collateral, War of the Worlds).

A key detail that gives the report a little more substance than just rumor: These are all Paramount/Dreamworks releases, and they went up at the same time as the Transformers link, which hails from the same studio.

Aren't those just old placeholders that Amazon has used since the formats launched? This Braveheart BD listing has been up for over a year.

The delay probably involves whether they will release the theatrical cut or the director's cut. Including both cuts would be far too easy.

Rumor: 'Shrek the Third' Coming to HD DVD, Blu-ray
August 08, 2007

Paramount Home Entertainment recently announced 'Shrek the Third' is headed to DVD on November 13, but failed to announce either an HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc version will accompany it. At the time, we thought nothing of the exclusion as Paramount has yet to announce any Dreamworks Animation title for either HD format.

In a bizarre twist this week, the Columbia House DVD Club has added listings for both HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions of 'Shrek the Third' to their website. Does this mean a release is imminent? We don't necessarily think so, but at the same time, it's hard to imagine why Columbia House would add the listings without having received word from Paramount indicating they'll be available.

For now, we're taking the listings with a grain of salt and will not add 'Shrek the Third' on either format to our disc listings until Paramount officially announces it. Secretly we're hoping it turns out to be true as there are a number of other Dreamworks Animation titles we'd love to see in high definition.

That would be awesome. The DVD looked near 3D, as does the HBo HD broadcast. I can only imagine how good this would look on HD/BD.

Did DVD releases get canceled as much when the format debuted?
