Its funny that Best Buy dropped te price down this week on this film and a couple others from Warner.

I ended up purchasing it for $14.99 - Very well worth it!

Also, has anyone noticed how incredibly difficult getting 'Frighteners' on HD DVD has been to obtain - The only way you can get it is by ordering it.

matome 07-13-07 08:24 AM

It's hard to get any "smaller" catalog titles at B&M's, since they're hesitant to use shelf space for them and take away from the newer releases which are more likely to sell. You can easily get the Frighteners and any other catalog title at most online retailers.

Universal will be releasing "Knocked Up" in an HD DVD/DVD combo day and date with the standard release. No solid release date yet, but the HD DVD is going to feature the "U Control" that Universal has used on other releases.

Looks like it's most-likely going to be a Sept. release, BTW.

Giles 07-16-07 09:28 AM

holy mother of god - Wings of Honneamise is up for preorder at Amazon (street date: Sept. 11) $79.99 MSRP !!!! at least Amazon brings it down to $56 bucks and I have a 25 dollar certificate I can use - but jeesh... talk about expensive.

Mr. Cinema 07-16-07 09:58 AM

Sony is releasing Paul Verhoeven's Black Book on BD on 9/25

I thought that Universal was stopping releasing combos?

I believe that is only for catalog titles.

'Memoirs of a Geisha,' 'Underworld' and 'TEKKONKINKREET' Coming to Blu-ray Disc
July 17, 2007

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that in addition to releasing 'Black Book' on September 25 on Blu-ray Disc, they will also release the catalog titles 'Memoirs of a Geisha,' 'Underworld (Unrated)' and the Japanese animated film 'TEKKONKINKREET' on Blu-ray Disc the same day.

All three films will be presented in widescreen 1080p video and feature PCM 5.1 lossless audio, though 'TEKKONKINKREET' will be presented strictly in Japanese with English subtitles.

Home Media Expo Reveals 'Harry Potter,' 'Blade Runner' HD DVD, Blu-ray Disc Pricing
July 17, 2007

The Home Media Expo is cranking along in blistering hot Las Vegas, and we're now starting to see some high-def news trickle out. In particular, a couple of mega-box sets have been confirmed complete with lofty SRPs.

We've known Warner Home Video had plans to release Blade Runner and all five Harry Potter films on HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc this fall, but we didn't know what configuration those releases would take. Warner has confirmed all five Harry Potter films will be available in a monster HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc box set for a cool $149.99. And you thought 'The Matrix Collection' was expensive! Our guess is 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' will be available separately, while the other four years will only be available (initially) in the box set.

In addition, the much-anticipated 'Blade Runner' release will span a whopping 5 discs on HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Warner did not reveal pricing for those versions, but with the standard DVD 5-disc set clocking in at $78.92, we expect pricing right around the $100 mark.

With Comic-Con just around the corner, be on the lookout for more big holiday high-def release news to pour out over the next week and a half.

News of The Wild Bunch in high-def has made my day.

Supermallet 07-19-07 03:39 PM

Agreed, Wild Bunch in HD is awesome news.

Adam Tyner 07-19-07 04:06 PM

Sony is issuing 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957) on Blu-ray. It won't arrive alongside the DVD this month, but it'll be out before the end of the year. Currently scheduled for 12/4.

Yeah, thats great! Love that movie....I also might snag Wyatt Earp...I think its a pretty good movie and had too much harsh criticism. I still like Tombstone better. ;)

As a classic sci-fi fan, this is great news!

Mr. Cinema 07-20-07 08:27 AM

Great to see Sony will be releasing something made before 1990.

Outstanding! Big thumbs up for Wild Bunch too.

The Reaping is coming on 9/25 to Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...ay,_HD_DVD/795

matome 07-23-07 10:28 AM

Well, Warner has been pretty good lately on including the same HD audio tracks on both formats, and DVDactive has the Blu-Ray covers and it certainly does indicates a TrueHD track for The Reaping BD, so hidefdigest looks to be wrong in this case.

Does it really matter for a garbage movie like this?

For what it was, I thought it was pretty entertaining.

Supermallet 07-23-07 02:38 PM

It matters for every release, we should be getting lossless audio on as many discs as possible, especially new releases.

Skoobooz 07-23-07 02:38 PM

Although I find most of AVS useless, this thread was actually somewhat interesting:

"Hamlet on Blu-ray: Is It Coming Or Not? The Answer..."

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=878804

The answer is apparently "not right away." Disappointing...hopefully they actually do release it early next year. They're doing it with Alexander, so there's hope....

Damn, next year? Granted, I'm not shocked it's not coming in August - I first had my suspicions when the Elvis titles were announced for September, but I was at least hoping it would only get pushed back a couple of months.

BTW, Amazon Unbox has this for rental for $2.99, for those of us who don't want to wait to rent the DVD.

The blu-ray also gets TrueHD, the page you linked to was updated with the proper info.

matome 07-24-07 08:20 AM

Bram Stoker's Dracula has just been added at DVDEmpire for Blu-Ray on 10/2. Since it's streeting the same day as the new DVD SE I'm assuming it should be the special edition as well.

http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_ite...6114&searchID=

AVS and blu-ray.com are also mentioning some upcoming Warner titles (assuming both formats here): Poltergeist SE (10/9), Twilight Zone: The Movie (10/9), and Return to House on Haunted Hill (10/16)

Figures, as I just managed to snag a laserdisc copy of The Twilight Zone Movie.

Adam Tyner 07-24-07 08:27 AM

If it's any consolation, I watched The Twilight Zone: The Movie in high-def on HDNet Movies, and it really didn't look that great.

matome 07-24-07 08:35 AM

Well, hopefully it's gotta look better than that ancient P&S laser I got :). I only paid $10 for it on Ebay, but it took a long time for it to pop up.

No loss here...just as long as they don't cancel "Saturday Night Fever". :)

Drexl 07-24-07 12:11 PM

Wow, Poltergeist was expected, but not Twilight Zone. Even if it doesn't look all that great, might as well get it in HD since you're not replacing a DVD.

matome 07-24-07 01:55 PM

Yeah, The Twilight Zone listing was a shocker for me. I had just given up waiting for a DVD all these years, hence the laserdisc search.

Mr. Cinema 07-24-07 06:04 PM

DVD Active announced the dvd special edition of Chinatown for 11/6. I think jiggawhat mentioned this coming to the HD formats. I really hope they debut with the dvd.
