1.Hulk- clarity, sharpness & color are amazing, plus it's 1:85:1 & fills the whole screen with visual goodness.
2.King Kong- some scenes are 3-d they're so good
3.Miami Vice- huge differences from scene to scene going from intentional grain to amazing crispness
4.Dune- I've seen it 20-30 times and noticed details & colors that made some scenes look almost new. And this is one of my favorite movies visually.

Mutiny on the Bounty & Robin Hood are by far the best discs I've seen to date. Their color palettes are simply amazing and come across as 3-D almost.
Admittedly, The Hulk, Kong, V For Vendetta & Riddick are all stand out discs as well. But truthfully, given their age, I would expect them to be stellar. MOTB & RH are unbelievable and the fact that they are so not-so-young, makes them even moreso.

One thing I'm curious about is this...are older movies going to seriously look much improved? I don't mean movies in the 40's, but say...movies in the 70's and 80's? Can their transfers on HD-DVD look very good/clear/sharp, etc?

Absolutely. basically a 35 mm film frame has a massive amount of imformation on it, actually there is more info on a 35mm neg than even the HD formats can use. So yes any film can look massivly improved on HD compared to SD DVD. The reason it doesnt look better on SD or even HD is because of the limitation of the format, not the limitation of the original film stock.

Interesting...didn't know that. My thinking was that only recent movies (past 10-15 years) would benefit the best by HD-DVD, and then movies made even farther back wouldn't look as eye popping due to the age and restraint of camera technology/film stock. Thats why I was thinking getting movies from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, etc would be worthless.
It's good to know that's not the case!

I have been very impressed with the picture quality on Corpse Bride, Sleepy Hollow, and Mutiny on the Bounty. I had some out-of-sync audio on Mutiny on the Bounty, but the image was gorgeous. I am looking forward to more older films being released if they can look this good.
With that said, I just watched Hulk, and the movie was not that good, but the picture quality was probably the best that I have seen.

I only have 4 HD titles: batman begins, superman returns, v for vendetta, and king kong. I found superman returns to be the best picture out of the bunch. I found kong to be a bit weak.. maybe I have to take another look. I must say that I am most impressed with the warner bros titles. they certainly know how to make it look good.

We're all entitled to our opinions of course, but I found this to be one of the top transfers on HDDVD as far as picture quality is concerned. Many scenes practically have a 3D look to them. I also think Corpse Bride belongs at the top of the bunch.
