My first unit was horizontal. However, this unit seems to be okay!

Before putting in The Descent, the disc was in perfect condition. When I was done playing it, and took it out of the PS3, the disc remained in the same condition. 2 things I noticed between this one and the one I had at Target. The box for this one is was mint compared to a beat up box at Target. Also, and this probably isn't related to my previous problem, but the slot loader sounds different when loading a disc on this compared to my bad one. The other one did make a bit of a louder/clicking noise when it would take and eject a disc. This one sounds "safer", I guess. Anyways, looks like my worries are over and I can start...again....to enjoy what BD has to offer. Casino Royale, Pirates 1 and 2, Cars, and eventually Spiderman 1 and 2. Should be fun.

IGN (not the most reliable source I know) gave Casino Royale great marks for pq and aq. I'm really fired up for this one. Hopefully the other reviewers will agree.

Never saw Casino Royale (or any Bond for that matter). Maybe I'll rent it.

Casino Royale should be a huge seller for the entire year for BD.

While big, I don't think it will top a title like Batman or even Pirates of the Carribean.

I think it could top Batman. Don't underestimate the power of Bond.

Casino Royale is a new release, which gives it a huge edge over catalog titles. There are always going to be some people who just won't buy titles they already have on other formats. Didn't Star Wars place fourth or something in sales when it debuted on DVD?

Casino Royale is definitely going to be a huge seller. It will definitely top the BAT.

It definitely will. Face facts...there are more BD players out there so consumers will be buying up the film. Hopefully some B&M will do a special with the film like BB did with The Departed.

Are there now? NOT including PS3 players?

Please cite your source as well.

I don't think he's talking about more BD players than HD-DVD players. He's just saying there are a lot more out there now relative to a few months ago.

Even so, you can't remove the PS3 from the base. It is a BD player, and many have bought it to be one. Not sure why it matters either way, though.

And I have a PS3 and will be buying this one.

Me too, and I seriously doubt we're the only ones. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Casino Royale BD sell a lot of copies (comparatively speaking, for a BD at this point).

Yeah, but when 90% of your BR players are PS3 machines, and some people only have about $60 or so to spend, are they gonna get Motorstorm or a movie?

This movie was one of the reasons I bought a PS3.
I agree you can't count all PS3s the same way you would count all standalone players, however, Blu-ray movies have jumped because of the PS3 so there is no reason to think this movie wouldn't be a huge seller.

This is exactly the kind of movie gamers would buy even if they only buy a fraction of the discs people with standalones do.

I can't think of one game that is better than a great movie, and from what I've heard about Motorstorm, almost any movie would be a better purchase.

I would think the typical PS3 owner would buy a $60 game with 10+ hours of play vs. a movie with 2 hours of entertainment.

Unless they perceive a higher value out of the $25 movie than the $60 game.

This is just the type of movie though to appeal to the standard 18-35 year old gamers. I think they find room in the budget for this one. I'm not saying every PS3 owner gets the movie, but a movie of this type is going to draw a much larger percentage of gamers. If this was a drama or old film I would agree it may not get much help from the PS3 owners more concerned with games. These mainstream blockbuster action films are made for the PS3 market.

Yes, but would the mainstream gamer spend $30 on this or the $15 DVD version?

No, his intention was quite clear - there are more BD players and HD-DVD players, which is not correct.

And if he's going to include PS3, then he should include the HD-DVD add-on for 360, which is a MUCH clearer indication of gamers supporting next gen HD-DVD than gamers supporting BD.

That is fine, but then there are still way more BD players in homes than HD DVD, so I really don't see where your issue is with his first post.
