You guys on the BD side can moan all day long about how unimportant special features are but the bottom line is that there is an HD format out right now competing with BD that is taking a very different approach than BD is by porting over the majority of special features on the majority of titles. Sure there have been exceptions and there always will. Hell, there are still some SD DVD's that get released bare bones. Bottom line is one is doing it and the other format that has touted bigger storage space all along isn't and charging more price wise. You as consumers may jump ll over that but I never will, even if HD-DVD fails and BD doesn't. I will never adopt BD while they continue to do things they way they do. ITs insulting to people that do like the extras.
Besides everything I just mentioned, it would be in BD's best interest as a format that isn't doing very well right now to rethink their entire approach to how they are doing things. If you think that the general population is going to go for what BD is offering right now as compared to what you get with SD DVD's then your in dreamland. It will never happen. The new formats have to be better than DVD's in every way, not just PQ & AQ. There are simply too many people that expect extras along with the movies these days to get away with it.
So continue supporting BD and if your content with paying what you are and getting what you are for it then all the power to you. None of this should matter to you and you will continue enjoying your format for however long it survives being 1 year or 10 years. As I said I will never adopt BD in its current form and I know alot of others that feel the exact same way. IMO, it just makes HD-DVD that much more desirable and has cemented me on that side even more. To each his own.

I don't have a format, and I'm not on "the BD side". I only buy BDs if I can't get the title in HD-DVD.

I also see BD as going downhill and I believe HD DVD to be the "winner".
But it really is an individual decision.

I never adopted Laserdisc and dont get me wrong, from what I have seen and what I have heard it was a great format to get into if you didn't mind the large disc and the large price tag. You could still get all of the great titles and it has lasted for a long long time. But lets not kid each other here, comparing the new HD formats to Laserdisc is really comparing Apples to Oranges period. Bottom line is people expect extras today, so much so that the hugely popular 2 disc SE's came about directly from that desire. HD was about getting more, not getting less and as I have said before, there is currently a format, HD-DVD, that is porting over the majority of extras on 95% of the titles released.
Bottom line like I said before, if your happy buying BD bare bones for the prices they are charging right now then dont listen to anyone and continue enjoying your format for however long it survives. Fact is having no extras makes BD look inferior to HD-DVD especially cause BD has touted having all this extra space since day 1. Fact is it just shows the general consumer that BD isn't willing to go the extra step on their products and that the extra space means absolutely zip, nadda, nothing. This format war will be lost and won in the trenches of the average consumer. If you feel confident going against a format that is in fact catering to what that average consumer wants while BD isn't then again all the power to you. Keep enjoying your format and ill keep enjoying mine. Time will tell if it is important or not important overall but for this individual it absolutely is.

I just worded my responce poorly then because I never meant to say you were a supporter or not of BD, fact is I cant really keep track of all of the people and who they are rooting for in this thing. Basically it was just a responce to your post and that line of thinking. In the future ill try not to infer that someone is on one side or the other in my responces.

Should we start a new release thread? (with perhaps a few ground rules laid out ahead of time) This has pretty much turned into everything but release info.

Well I just added to my order with Harry Potter and am posting it in here becuase I didnt even realize the movies I had ordered were in fact available yet. Someone might find the info useful. I didnt know that Running Scared & The Machinist were available yet.
I ended up getting
Harry Potter
Running Scared
The Machinist
The Pianist
King Kong (1976)
I didnt realize some of these were even available. Guess Ihavent been paying attention to the export side of HD-DVD. Some great titles!

Apparently The Black Dahlia isn't coming out on HD DVD as expected.
Compare the entry on Universal's website for The Deer Hunter, which includes the HD DVD and two DVD releases, to The Black Dahlia, which just has two DVDs.
Can't quickly find an online store that has it in-stock (several don't even have it listed) either.
So, Grubert was completely correct in not listing it.
