They didn't say. Just said no combo and no TrueHD.

I wonder if maybe the discs with the HD DVD pack are 1 sided, but the ones being sold separately are combos. That's a stretch though.

Couple of quotes from Robert (AVS):

"Tonight I watched King Kong with my family in our living room system, Pioneer Elite Pro-1540HD, 60" plasma HDTV.

Great movie and even greater image quality. I even loved the audio, which sounded wonderful on my new Pioneer Elite VSX84 receiver connected to Yamaha's Performance tower front speakers, center channel and SW315 sub-woofer with Niles 6" HD in-ceiling rear speakers.

This stuff is absolutely amazing."

"Rudy, some scenes in King Kong are the best I have ever seen, but overall MI:3 is probably the one of the best pq HD DVD's I have watched so far."

It's probably because Universal knows people will pay for it.

Why does "the look and sound of perfect" have a french translation underneath it? Does this mean it's the same as the HD DVD for release in France and doesn't that version not have u-control?

I would guess that it would be the Canadian release. DVD's in Canada are often like this to account for their French speaking regions.

I think UPS tried to deliver my copy from DVD Planet today, so it looks like I'll get to check it out this weekend.

The copy of Kong that comes with the 360 drive is a promo copy for distribution in the U.S. and Canada (hence the French writing). It doesn't have a UPC, and there is French writing on the back of the case as well.

I realize the HD DVD version of Kong in the add-on package is 1 sided. But I'm still wondering if the standalone version released in stores will be a combo disc. DigiFreak saw a combo version of Kong during the AVS meeting. It's priced at $39.99, al la a combo disc. I don't think we have any reviews of the standalone release either, just the version that came with the 360 drive.

I don't think it contains the extras from the 2-disc set.

The non-360 copy is one sided. As I said for Waterworld I havn't had the time to watch either yet. Hopefully later tonight.

That's what I'm beginning to wonder.

Kinda similar to how different the Talladega Nights disc is with the PS3 compared to the standalone. This Kong bundle is a limited run, so maybe Universal printed special one-sided discs just for that. I mean, even the cover contains the French title as well. It just sounds like "promo copy".

As I stated earlier, the store version is not a combo, and is single sided.

You'd seriously pass up a reference quality disc - one that easily bests M:I3 - because of a lack of extras? Wow. If you're waiting for a double-dip, I have a feeling it's going to be a while.

Wait, this thing is $40 MSRP and has no extras and is not a combo?

Wal*Mart has it for $19.95. What's the obsession over MSRP? All MSRP does is present the illusion (illluusion, Michael) that you're saving a lot of money, despite the fact that no one in his/her right mind would actually pay it; it's purely a marketing scam/scheme.

And it's not totally devoid of extras; it does have an IME-type feature. I always thought that commentaries and the like were everyone's favorite extra.
