My new TV is 1080p. Will future HD DVD players output 1080p?

I believe the top tier G2 player outputs 1080p. There has been some discussion that you need a TV bigger than 60" to see a difference between 1080i and 1080p though.

you dont' need it. if your tv is 1080p, it's deinterlacing it already.

Is there a question that I can ask that you won't have an answer for? Or at least an answer that would give me ANY hesitation toward buying this unit?

I'm sure there might be.

Look, you're not breaking the bank with $350. At the very least, it's a GREAT upconverting player and let me tell you, the sound is better than ANY DVD player I've had before. In fact, of the people that have come over, most have said they noticed the sound improvement as well as the visual. You'll be able to re-experience your collection like never before.

Clearly, there's no way to know who will "win" this format war but, to be quite honest, if you buy one of these and you're as happy as everyone else I know who has gotten one is, then you're already a winner.

Oh and just to warn you, I sold a shitload of DIVX players in it's heyday and I thought it was absolute crap. This, however, I actually own myself and DO think it will eventually be mainstream. I will also tell you that there are people on this board (one in particular, who shall remain nameless) who I knocked off the ledge and currently has probably triple the amount of titles I have.

Does the American Airlines deal still work? I'm almost certain that Value Electronics is out as well.

Costco still has them listed online at $450 shipped via UPS. If you are not a member, there is an extra 5% surcharge. They also are required to charge sales tax in most states.

One advantage to membership is that you can return the A1 to any warehouse pretty much anytime, for any reason, for a full refund of your original purchase price.

And don't forget that Amazon has it for $399.99 with free shipping.

Seconded. Someone said it was worth an upgrade for the sound alone. He couldn't really tell the difference with the visual.

I haven't used it because my display is DVI, but I just measured the HDMI cable that came with my A1 and it is 78 inches tip to tip. That is about six feet working length, considering bends.

Yeah, it's definitely longer than 3 feet. It's connecting my HD-DVR and LCD TV which I know are farther apart than that.

Looks like these were back in stock yesterday. For those who may still be interested, I'd keep checking the site.

I did.

I got one. I'll be part of the HD-DVD club soon enough. Now to look at what discs are coming out in the upcoming months. 48 hours ago I had no intention of making the leap to the next generation, but I just did. Hopefully I won't regret it.

Hmm, maybe I'm looking at the wrong cable.

Ok, so I'd like to relate my experience with AmericanTv.Com so far.

The A1 was ordered on Tuesday.

I was told it would ship Friday.

Friday night I used the "UPS" tracker on their website to find the tracking number. Nothing.

I called the CS #, and was told that THEY do not have the tracking information, but I could call UPS, give them my address and describe the item shipped and they could track it for me.

That was so insane that I asked for this guys supervisor.

The girl I spoke to next told me the same thing. American does not have the tracking numbers, nor could they find it for me.....ever. They NEVER have the tracking number. She then told me to call UPS, describe the package and give them my address and they will track it for me.

I asked for her supervisor, because by now I'm thinking this is not AmericanTv.Com, but FellOffATruck.Com.

The next guy told me the same thing, but at least admitted that their process is stupid, and being new to web sales, they will upgrade the process in the future. This was good to know, because even the crappiest website emails you a shipping confirmation with a tracking number.

So I let them go, calmed down, and decided to try tracking until Monday.

Now, when I was on the phone with them they told me that the package wasn't so much shipped yet, but put on a truck to UPS. That tells me that it probably hasn't been assigned a tracking number yet.

So late Friday night I tracked it using the UPS tracker on their website, typing in the order nunber and my zip code.

It arrives this Wednesday. How simple was that, huh?

All they had to say was, "Sir, since we just put it on the truck it wont show in the UPS system until tonight or tomorrow."

Jeeez..

Hopefully this will turn out happy after all.

I had a similar experience when I ordered an LCD TV online a few months back. But I was able to track it by calling UPS. It took a little while to ship since that was the week of those horrific storms in the Northeast, but once they did ship it, it took a week to arrive. Unless AmericanTV is blatantly ripping people off with this promotion, you should be ok.

American TV has never really been much of an online selling business. I used to work for them. They probably have never had as many on line orders as they have for the A1's. They certainly have never had as much attention from the online community as they did with this sale. They are a very reputable dealer they just dont have much online experience.
