It's the start of the HD formats and we know that not everything is on the discs.
At least we are getting the best possible encoding of HiDef in history ever, etc etc.
And we are getting more extras on HD DVD than we are on Bluray etc anyway.
Just MY opinion on this "mountian out of a molehill"...

Christopher Reeve is so utterly charming as both Clark Kent and Superman that you can't help but smile when he's on the screen. It's one of the best comic book movies ever (Batman Begins finally managed to top it, though), and an American classic. I would say the scene where Superman reveals himself and saves Lois from the helicopter crash is one of the most uplifting (pun intended) in all of Hollywood cinema.

Superman (1978) was an upbeat, mostly humorous take on the comic book legend. By contrast Superman Returns was pretty grim, especially the Lex Luthor depiction. Perhaps that is the way it is supposed to be in the comic books (I couldn't say, I never read them). Certainly the much praised Batman Begins is pretty grim, but my sense is that is in keeping with the psychologically troubled main character.
But all the silly superhero stuff, whether in movies or comic books, really ought to be taken with "tongue in cheek" IMHO. And Superman (1978) does that.
So far as the "dilemma" in the OP, I'll stick with HD only stuff. I don't have the collector mentality and have no interest in the 14 disc box set. And, like many others, I don't have any interest in "III" and "IV". I think WB is probably making the correct decision in just releasing "I" and "II" and "Returns" for now (although I still hate combos, as I have said above). It is "good enough" for me.

^Hey! I like the Amazon discount and don't care when the titles get listed, just so long as I can get them (eventually) inexpensively.
Chasing HD DVDs at B&M stores is not an option for me, since the nearest stores are 300 miles away, even if I was willing to pay a lot extra to get them in person.

^I'll look into that. Thanks.
Edit: The only HD DVD title I could find at mjentertainment was The Fugitive. I take it that it is hit or miss there.
I am one of the unlucky ones that can't get the Google discount page to load, although I have been trying for several days. Might be a connection speed issue.
Edit 2: I was correct about the problem, used broadband at my library to place some Google checkout orders. Buy.com + Google = $33.26 for two HD DVDs ($16.63 each), for many titles. Pretty good deal.
Here's hoping that the Superman HD DVDs get listed before the Google promotion goes away...

I didn't see it listed in here, but i might have missed it. Is superman Returns going to be a combo? I saw the picture at DDD and it said combo and the price is high enough that i think it is, but i'm just looking for clarification.

I figure, that means the boxed set will cost me $20 and then I just have to pay for the HD DVD versions. Done.
