PS..
I have some random player that I use for playing .avi, mpg4 etc. and I agree that it is invaluable. But it is a bedroom player as my HD-A1 is connected to the same output as my computer, so I can watch those things anyway. If the HD-A1 could have played all those, it would be amazing.

But I will echo what everyone else has said....dvd upconverted on the HD-A1 are amazing....unless it is a crap transfer, then you realize.."hey, this was a crap transfer, and I was only vaguely aware of it before, but now I'm pissed off." Fortunately that is for very few movies.

I did the exact same thing....I had planned to keep the Oppo, but after seeing the upconversion on the A1, I sold it to my brother for $150.

I watch my PAL movies in my 360 now... I dont have alot of those anyways.

Let me put it to you this way.

This player holds up pretty darn well to the Denon DVD-5910 that I dropped $3K on last year!

Wow. On the bright side, going with HD-DVD and BD must look like a drop in the bucket.

Yeah....

Given that that piece of garbage Samsung player is its only option right now, the drop is still a bit too big for me to be an early adopter of BD too, however.

I watched Hotel Rwanda last night on my Toshiba and I could not believe how good it looked. It was very very good. I'm extremely pleased with the upconverting on this unit.

The upconverted SD of Deadwood looks better than the HBO-HD broadcasts.

The Hills Have Eyes remake looked great. That's been one of the better dvd transfers I've seen. Fantastic Four also really benefited from the A1. Lost Seasons 1 and 2 also looked very good.

I was just trying to compile a quick list of titles. I think this deserved it's own thread.

I looked at some side-by-side screenshots of the Seven Samurai discs, and I didn't find the image quality to be such a huge step up that I need to upgrade. The extras, on the other hand...I'll probably wait for one of the DDD 20% off sales.

Thats good to know...Ive almost pulled the trigger a couple of times. But its much easier for me to wait now, especially with all of the Disney stuff coming out at the end of the year.

Hard Candy is stunning for a SD-DVD. Great upconversion on the A1!
