flashburn 06-09-06 04:57 PM

Awesome! I think I will be picking up all 3. Wish Kiss Kiss wasn't a hybrid, but oh well.

Lethal Weapon is actually coming out on the 27th.

flashburn 06-09-06 05:17 PM

Bah, HD DVD Digest says they will both be hybrids retailing for $40.
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...les_in_June/99

I'll still get em!

bdhart 06-09-06 05:21 PM

Depends on which page you look at.

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/news/...les_in_June/99

shows it as HD DVD only at $34.99

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...les_in_June/99

shows it as a hybrid at $39.99

flashburn 06-09-06 05:26 PM

Yeah, but it makes sense for them to be hybrids.

Actually, with Syriana being the longest of the "new" releases (126min), maybe they couldn't fit it on a 15GB disc without compromising image quality, so they are doing a 30GB regular HD DVD release.

Sorry. Wrong link. I was in a rush with the other one.

from:

Some tidbits:
>> Syriana seems to be the first fresh-from-theatre title that is given the HD DVD only treatment instead of the HD DVD/DVD Combo format which was used on other fresh-from theatre titles such as Firewall.

flashburn 06-09-06 05:43 PM

Nice, looks like they are correct. Here is the press release.

Well.. there was that BB schedule posted earlier.

RockStrongo 06-10-06 08:54 AM

Ill only pick up lethal weapon...I didnt care for Syriana. Ill rent Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Rusty James 06-10-06 09:58 AM

Definitely picking up Syriana, especially since it's not a hybrid. Very underrated movie, IMHO.

Btw...are you planning on wiping this thread every once in a while? I have a feeling it's going to get really long.

The blog post you referred to was based on the Title list put up at the HD DVD Promotion Group website, which has proved to be rather unreliable. For example, they list Guitarscape Planet as releasing on June 13, when we have first-hand information it's launching on the 27th. Probably they looked at the same retailer info I used. ;)

Not that it can't be eventually be true, but the source only qualifies as rumor IMO.

I agree, but only a moderator can do that.

FYI, Netflix is already shipping Guitarscape Planet. It is listed as "very long wait" in the queue now. Previously it said "releases June 13". It wouldn't say there was a wait unless they were shipping it.

Or am I wrong about Netflix practices?

And DVD Empire shows it as having been released last week. Which we know is wrong.

An official announcement overrides information from one retailer.

To steal one of Grubert's posts on AVS:

Universal's first HD-DVD/DVD Combos in August:

The compressionist for Batman Begins said his test discs are going for approval this week. ;) He's at AVS and seems like a nice guy. Said he hasn't seen anything about the Matrix yet...so that might not be until the Fall. I'm betting Christmas.

Any hint at a possible release date for Batman Begins?

Link? (Couldn't find it at AVS)
