Do you SERIOUSLY think some star wars punk deinterlaced every one of these shots? REALLY.

We have done more weird things than that. But like I said, those are labeled as 1080p only because the original release was labeled so.

I don't know. They don't seem to have the jagged lines that would indicate that they've been bobbed. If they're frame grabs from a video file, they should be deinterlaced by the media player, shouldn't they?

This is accurate. The mix up was left and right surrounds, with no problems in the front channels.

Update: Although the ON Demand Episode 2 is cropped, Ep2 shown live on Cinemax HD was indeed in oar, at least the first time it was shown. It hasn't looked this good since it was on dlp screens in theatres.

Watched all 6 on and off this weekend just to see what SW looked like in HD, and was just bummed of what has happened to SW. The OT movies are mucked up by the SE, the PT movies are just average movies that have cool SW moments, but also have really bad moments in each movie that stand out solely because of Lucas's writing, directing, and obsession with CG.

There are so many friends I talked to this weekend who doing the same as me as to tuning in and out of the marathon really interested in what SW looked like in HD, and kept saying how bad the PT is now that you see them consecutively next to the OT.

After assessing the SW saga, ANH & ESB are the only classic movies of the 6, IMO, and Lucas has taken SW to the road of mediocrity.

Sad.

So sayeth the internet fanboys, so it shall come to pass.

I LOVE how RotJ is now lumped in with the prequels. Laughable.

content of each movie aside, how did the HiDef transfers look and sound? That's the 20 million dollar question... ??

Have to say they looked and sounded fantastic. I didn't watch any of them all the way through but I did see parts of all 3.

As someone who has seen each movie a billion times, I was noticing new details on the OT every time I watched. As much as I hate the "clean up" job, it does reveal an insane amount of detail.

I will not lump ROTJ in with the PT movies, cause it is better then all 3 of them. I was just saying that ROTJ is not as great as ANH/ESB, but that doesn't mean it is a bad sequel.

The PT made me realize that ROTJ could have been worse, cause each PT movie is plagued with the same problems, and the added scenes to the OT SE adds nothing to the movies, (Greedo shooting first, Bad CG Jabba, Vaders arrival on the Destroyer in ESB, and the awful Jedi rocks song in ROTJ)

As for how it looks, they looked great, and it only got me more mad that I am stuck watching non-anamorphic versions of the O-OT and probably that will be the best I can ever watch it in, and that to me is truly sad.

Sorry for the rant guys, but this marathon showed the true divisions of SW fandom:

1. SE/PT fans, high quality releases for years to come
2. O-OT fans who made the saga what it is, we are fucking second class citizens.

Then you see a Superman boxset that comes out in 2 weeks that has EVERY version, even the frickin Donnor Cut, in high quality Anamorphic Widescreen to please every Superman fan, and then you have Lucas who just releases what version is his vision at the present time.

I only watched the end of Ep 4 and the beginning of Ep 5, but I thought it looked really good. Too good, actually. Since the picture is so clear now, a lot of things looked a lot more fake to me.

The first 3 looked great as is to be expected. I was suprised how good 4 looked. I was a bit disapointed with 5. I didn't see much of it but the Dagobah scenes looked grainy but the Cloud 9 stuff looked really good. Didn't log much time with 6.

I debated signing up for Cinemax just for this month, but I can't seem to get up the energy. A bit of Star Wars fatigue, I guess. I think I'm a bit burned out on the whole saga at the moment.

I would appreciate any detailed reviews of the picture quality (or links to details).

So, is this worth signing up for Cinemax for a month, putting the movies on the DVR, then cancelling? Is it that great of an upgrade?

That is exactly what I have done... the OT and Sith are now loaded on my DVR, and I think they look a whole lot better than the upscaled SDs. I'd say it was well worth the $10 charge.

So it's confirmed that AOTC is cropped, not just on the OnDemand but on the broadcast versions?
They are running all 6 all month? I might have to order it for the month but it will be a big upgrade here not just $10-$13. We have minimal cable, 92 or so channels plus the HD box for $5.00 more, (totals $50 or so) but to get a premium channel we have to upgrade to like "Digital Silver" or some crap and it's like $79.20 a month...!

And wouldn't it suck if when you cancel Cinemax then WHOOSH, the comcast DVR gets wiped clean?

No way uncle George would give a change away for free like that. When changes are made, we'll know about it.

TPM features puppet Yoda.

AOTC is NOT cropped in the regular broadcast version.

I have to agree. I watched the OT in full, and the PT in pieces over the weekend. The OT has never looked better...The Vader-Luke Lightsaber battle in RotJ looked fantastic, the trash compactor scene (always a tough one) looked wonderful in Star Wars, and everything in Empire was great.

I honestly can't complain about the SEs like everyone else can...I just want to watch the fucking movies. The dance number in Jedi is like "WTF?" and I soooo want the old song back for the end of it, but when it's all said and done, the movies are still the movies, and the moments that made them memorable are all still there, all unchanged from the originals.

Ditto. Except for Han shooting first. ;-)
