...well, I've finally got it all together, and let me tell ya, that hi-def is (in a word)...
INCREDIBLE!!!
I almost fainted, it was so beautiful!
I was going to buy that Toshiba A1 (HD DVD player), but I'm gonna wait for that newer A2 model they're supposed to release this month.
If I've learned anything, it's:
Once you've tried Hi-Def, you'll NEVER wanna go back!

My options keep growing.
Now I'm considering the Optoma HD70 projector, if there's a room in the house that's conducive to projector viewing. But I'm a little wary of the drop from 1080 to 720.

^When getting into those 100+ inch picture sizes, a front projector seems to make a whole lot more sense than either RPTV or flat panel. Don't really see the point in such large units.
At least Mr. Foo's 70 inch SXRD is still a reasonable size for RPTV.

I did a search but can't find anything.
Can you point me to the thread?

To give you the quick summary: The A2 is going to lose the analog outputs for sound, so you'd have to use HDMI to output DolbyTrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio. Also, we're not sure that the A2 will have the same kind of sound components as the A1, so the sound may be a little less spectacular.

OH, MAN!!! It's SUPER-MALLET MAN!!!
Howdy, Dude!
What do you do?
Just sit there in front of your PC and stare at this forum 24/7???
(Don't get me wrong, and I sincerely appreciate the quick responce, but WOW!!! That was SHOCKINGLY quick!
)
RE: The A2...
Are you SERIOUS??? The newer model will be worse? I thought most newer stuff would be better...
So, what you're basically saying is that I'll have to buy a new amp? (For the HDMI plug?)
Are you just putting down the A2 because you all already bought the A1 and are jealous that 'I'm' buying the NEWER & BETTER model?
THEEK!

The A2 will be better in its load times, and will most likely have some other options that A1 doesn't have. So it's not a clear-cut A1 is better/A2 is worse kind of thing, but there are some trade-offs on both. If you were to buy the A2 and you wanted to hear the new lossless codecs then yes, you would need a new receiver that has an HDMI input.
As for answering so quickly, I've actually been upstairs almost all day playing Okami, I just happened to come down for dinner and saw the post, so I responded.

WOW! I was just thinking of her!
How'd you DO THAT???
I met her one morning (way back in the day) when I was working the main gate security at ABC over there on Prospect Ave out here in L.A.
She was late for her (Re: 'Superman', I believe) appearance on AM Los Angeles, and she was nervous and I told her not to worry, and that she'd do fine, and she gave me a kiss on the cheek.

...but I'm a BAD super, man, because I bought a Sony up-converter player somehow actually thinking it was a HD-DVD player, and now I wanna take it back and buy an A1 (or A2) but everyone says it's wrong and that I should keep the Sony because if I take it back I'm using something I'm not paying for.

I heard about the less outputs for the A2, So I bought an A-1 and was able to knock the price down another 100 bucks.
Very happy with my decision.

Toshiba's HD DVD Product Information and News website says October 2006.
Here's a link: http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/hddvd/
(Once you get there, scroll down to where it says, 'Toshiba announces introduction of second generation HD DVD players', and click on the 'read full story' link.)

I think that's it. It does load faster and is a smaller unit. I think it looks nice. I may get one even though I own the A1. I'm much more concerned with video than audio, so getting the full bitrate DTS track with the digital connection is just fine by my ears. It is good to have the analogs in case you want to try out the DD+ or TrueHD tracks and don't have a HDMI equipped receiver.

That's why I'm waiting, but they better hurry the Hell up, because I'm gettin' awful itchy, and I don't think I can take another day being without my HD DVD!
I mean, I'm on the verge of just gettin' in the damn car and drivin' over to Best Buy and grabbin' an A1 off the shelve and paying full price!
