That's my point too but I got shot down in the Enter the Dragon thread.

[quote=The Bus]Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't DVD have the same ability to reproduce colors as HD-DVD and Blu-Ray?[/quote[

I still think colors are the same. Color resolution is different, but there's no reason DVD can't show off a very bright yellow, or a deep red, or a vibrant purple. These aren't magical colors that until HD-DVD were never seen in film on DVD. Again, that's what I think. I can't find any info on that but it makes sense to me from the computer/photo space.

What's present in film isn't what's in question.

I knew someone would call me out on that. I meant DVD. I still haven't found anything that says that colorspace on HD is more than it is on DVD. I know NTSC sucks for colors, but that's NTSC, not DVD.

Yeah, I knew what you meant, but I seize any opportunity to be obnoxious.

Doing some Googling, I see references to 8-bit 4:2:0 for both HD DVD and DVD, but I'm really not savvy enough to know if that's correct. I do seem to remember people suggesting not relying solely on DVD calibration discs like Avia and DVE because of the colorspace differences.

DVDs are encoded in NTSC or PAL.

i agree, those demos are awful. If I seen that and not known anything else I would never had bought one. They need to fix that quickly, cause HD-DVD looks much more amazing then those small demos
