BCI Eclipse releasing on HD-DVD/Blu-ray; first four HD-DVDs in August

...joining Magnolia as another small-ish company releasing on HD-DVD. From their press release, their first four titles are That's the Way of the World, Galaxina, Night of the Werewolf, and Vengeance of the Zombies, all of which are coming in August.

Over twenty titles total are planned for 2006, each with a $24.99 MSRP.

I'm actually kinda excited about this, if the quality's any good. Point and mock at will.

Great to see HD-DVD getting more and more software support, especially from the smaller companies.

I'm really looking forward to things like this... I'm VERY curious to see things like Galaxina on HD-DVD. That's going to be the big test -- low-budget, older films that have not been cared for particularly well: How will they look?

I'm still sitting out for a while until this whole format thing shakes down, but I'm glad to see that smaller companies are jumping in and releasing obscure/cult stuff. That kind of release is what finally got me into DVD, and it'll likely get me into the new format as well.

And for completeness' sake:

All titles have been digitally restored and created from the original film elements using state of the art equipment, and will also be available in standard and Blu-ray (dates to be determined) formats.

My kind of genre, but I don't know that it being in HD will sway my decision. It is nice to see the smaller studios doing something, though.

Interesting. I own the DVD release of Galaxina, and it is a horrible transfer. It looked almost like someone was videotaping a screen that was playing the movie. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, though, when one of the main characters is named Corny Butt. I'd be interested in hearing how the HD release looks (not that I'll upgrade, just curious).

I agree, I can't wait to see what the HiDef movies from Mondo Macabro will look, those films even standard DVD have garish colours that literal pop off the screen - along with the titties and blood

I cannot believe Galaxina is getting the HD treatment. Amazes me really. This is one of my guilty pleasures and I even went as far as ordering the German Anamorphic widescreen DVD a few months ago. Crazy.

crazy, I'd be livid that I bought an expensive import and then here about a region 1 domestic release - HiDef no less.

If I had an HD player I would be and I don't plan on buying one very soon. Plus I don't think I need Galaxina in HD when the copy I have looks great. I mean it's Galaxina for the love of God.

Sorry about that. I was reading the highlights on another forum and only gave the press release a quick skim. I've updated the subject line accordingly.
