I'm not particularly a fan of Bill Hunt, but I think you're overreacting. He's essentially just a blogger, though a relatively prominent one among home video enthusiasts. Bloggers aren't held to the same standards as "real journalists" and rightfully so - blogging by its very nature is not formal journalism. There are no compartmentalized roles of editor, fact checker, publisher, etc and as such, the reader should always know to take it with the appropriate grain of salt.

This really isn't that big of a deal. For one, the information was accurate until just recently (when was that article dated, anyway?). So they didn't happen to find the recent info that you did. So what? I'm glad you found the info and relayed it to him, and I'm sure he appreciated it. As someone mentioned, he hasn't been able to access the internet for several days. I'm sure he has a lot to catch up on, and this slight bit of information not being the top priority. Even so, if he does want to correct it, he may be double-checking the facts with proper sources. But considering the main information that Bill puts on his website, and what most people care about, are releases, and not who owns what company, I wouldn't be surprised that the info is never corrected. Now, if the info you gave him can be causing delays/cancellations of releases, then it might be newsworthy for him. Maybe you should just e-mail him and, as a courtesy, let him know that you realized that he may have missed your e-mail and wonder if the changeover in ownership may have affected the release. Even the best newsteam (not less a one-man blogger) may overlook such information and possible connections, especially when they're several days behind due to lack of access to e-mail, etc.

To me that is a huge deal, since this situation of investment groups taking over film libraries and then asking huge amounts of money for the rights is going to be huge burden for independent companies like Criterion. These type of situation is going to prevent a lot of films from being released in the future.

yes. The worst thing about the format war, in hindsight, is not the 150+ HD DVDs sitting in boxes in my basement. No, the worst thing is that Bill Hunt probably thinks he made Blu-ray victorious.
