Hold on to certain dvds for features, just like laserdisc?

I know there are certain docs/commentaries on ld that aren't available on dvd,so can we assume there will be certain docs/commentaries on dvd that won't be available on hd/br? I think this is a good reason to hang onto our dvd collections rather than starting over with next format.Just my two cents.

I never sell anything, until I see what I am replacing it with. I still have a bunch of Laserdisc and my DVD collection is still growing. I will add BR or HD-DVD or both to what I have. I may sell some as I go, I may not replace them all. Most of my collection will not be replaced. Maybe a couple hundred of over 1000 will be upgraded, the rest are fine. There are some movies I own the Laserdisc and the DVD. There are even a couple I sold the DVD and kept the LD. So I agree, hold onto any quality material as it may not be around on the next format.

Completely. I've saved every LD that didn't have the material ported over to DVD (see: Criterion). Then I've made my own SE combining the LD AND DVD material.

Yeah, that's going to be my one big nightmare about eventually jumping into HD DVDs... I'm sure that there will be tons of titles that come out either bare-bones or without all of the DVD supplements.

I own 3 laserdiscs, and it's the original non-SE versions of Star Wars. Definitely keeping those.

Also, there are plenty of dvds that contain trailers that they may not port over, such as the ones on the Jaws 25th Anniversary.

I'm hanging onto my LD editions of Robinson Crusoe on Mars and Santa With Muscles, cause these prolly wont ever see the light of DVD.

Totally agree on this topic. I'm not letting go of any DVDs until I'm sure what I'm getting with the HD version. Considering how limited the playing options on the next formats will probably be I will also keep the DVDs so I can watch the movies on my laptop or other portable video device.
