Did embedding videos get killed off?

I usually copy YouTube videos embed code to post trailers, but when I do that now it doesn't work. Posting the direct link seems to though.

Yup I noticed the same thing when I tried to post a promo for a TV series.

Ay, caramba!

Basically every video I’ve ever posted is fucked now.

Are you sure? It looks like videos I've posted using embedding are still working. It's just new posts that don't seem to work.

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

When I went to bump the Just Mercy thread for the release the previous two trailers I posted were just the embed code, not the video, so I had to update them. So maybe it is just a portion then.

I went back and looked at some other threads and some are there and some aren’t.

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

We did a very minor update to comply with CCPA, which was not supposed to effect anything else to my knowledge.

Technically, iframes/HTML are not supposed to be allowed, as they present a security risk. A few years back, I made the decision to keep them enabled for the community since it had been basically fine and would have disrupted the ways users were doing things already. The update may have enacted additional security to prevent iframes, however, which falls out of my control (and is technically much better for avoiding malevolent actions from rogue users).

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

So the best way is to use the [ yt ] tags?

IBJoel 01-08-20 11:55 AM

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

You can just copy/paste the regular link (note that it won't show in "Preview Post")

dex14 01-08-20 12:39 PM

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

I liked when it posts bigger. The tags seem to do that, so I guess I’ll stick with that for now.

It's fine for Youtube, but not every video out there is on Yt.

I think it has issue with Instagram posts too.

EDIT: Yep, IG isn't working. I'll ask tech to take a look.

Folks should have always been doing this - it's easier and more efficient, IMO.

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

Facebook embeds of photos don't work now either.

I tried to post the Facebook link to the new Snake Eyes press photos in that thread and the embed link didn't work.

So I had to post and upload each photo manually.

How is it easier and more efficient? I used to just right click and get the embed code and paste it. Now I need to copy the URL link, paste it, then delete everything before the YT id number, then type tags around it. If I'm on a computer I can at least just copy the ID from the URL. I mean it's fine, but it is still more steps.

But it does suck to go into a bunch of threads now and see videos that were posted by people not work anymore.

Appears to be fixed

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

There seems to be another issue with embedding Twitter. For some reason, some Twitter post links are seen as embedded on mobile but just as a link on pc/mac laptop. Best example I can give you is my post #20651 in this thread

I have reported to tech with evidence

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

^ the "?=s21" in the link may be a part of that.

Previously, any twitter link with that wouldn't display correctly on desktop or mobile. Now, as Red Hood says, it displays correctly on mobile, but not desktop.

Is there an issue with posting links from Facebook in the forum? I posted a link to a FB post (post #63) and is not visible to the other members of the forum. Any reason why?

There's no way to embed FB posts here anymore, right?

Was there ever? They'd have to be public, at least.

yes Facebook posts were able to be embedded before. Yes it would have to be a public post for it to work.

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

Well, let's see if an admin or IB can help with that. I'm not sure how much they can do with a niche website like Facebook, though.

IBJoel 07-06-20 12:16 PM

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

Well, Facebook links were straight up not appearing before, so we fixed that. Let me test if embeds work on our other sites

IBJoel 07-06-20 02:55 PM

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

Did the embed happen automatically with a copy/paste or did you need to put it in an iframe?

It used to be automatic with copy/paste of their embedding code.

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

Can I get a reminder on how to embed Youtube videos please?

andicus 02-28-21 05:19 PM

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

Just post the link, directly. I.e. copy the URL from your browser, and paste it into the post.

Dan 02-28-21 07:28 PM

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

But if you want good embedding, use [ YT ] and [ /YT ] (without spaces) around the video ID. So if the link is YouTube . com / ABCDEFGHIJK, then just everything after the / needs to be in the YT tags.

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

No matter how I try I can't get a video embed to work in the Post Your Favorite Song thread. Every single way I've tried results in an invalid URL. If I just post the URL, that's all I get: the URL, no video. If I try to use the Upload button, no matter what I copy/paste in there, it doesn't work (Invalid URL). What's the new secret for embedding videos here now? Embedding for dummies =

Edit: OK, so you have to manually type the [ YT ] and [ /YT ] (without spaces) around the URL. Jeez, what a pain in the ass. Embedding videos here used to be simple.

Edit: Well, that didn't work. I had to edit the post and delete my manually typed in tags, then it worked. Again I say: What in pain in my ass. WTF is going on here???

Edit: Tried to edit my post to add a few words, and all my words wanted to be URL'd Clicked the URL button to try to un-URL it, and it un-URL'd the link as well. I give up. I'm done trying to post videos here.

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

Cutting and pasting the url directly:

Using "YT" in brackets with only the code "lci8f2Ll03c" inbetween:

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

Have you actually submitted the post, and still only get the URL?

When I preview my post, I only see the URL, but once I submit it, the video shows up.

kd5 11-05-21 08:01 PM

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

It's been so long since I've tried to post a video, the idea that the video doesn't show up in Preview is just plain stupid and I wonder why any self respecting web developer would allow that to pass muster. I had no idea that while I was trying to see what the end result would look like before I posted it, it was never going to happen. It used to...

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

The reply box should have icons that represent the hosted video for example youtube, instagram, etc and you just url the link the way you do for a picture upload. This makes it so much easier instead of solving puzzles with video linking which is a pain in the ass sometimes.

kd5 11-06-21 08:37 PM

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

Since it'll probably be awhile before I try to post a video in the Post Your Favorite Song thread again, I'll more than likely have to come back to this thread and try to decipher what actually works.

No wonder it's been so long since I posted in that thread.

andicus 11-06-21 09:00 PM

Re: Did embedding videos get killed off?

? Did you try what I said? Nothing to decipher. Just post the YouTube link.
