Not only was the thread locked, but several pages of posts were removed or deleted. Is removing content common protocol when locking a thread?

It's probably time to re-open it since over the last 48 hours a lot of new photos of Ecto 1 and Ecto 2 have been posted, and Aykroyd and Jay Leno made an appearance driving the new Ecto 1 around Hollywood.

Initially the thread was locked with no explanations or warnings, so who knows what the protocol is anymore. Apparently we are all small children now.

The thread has been open since before you made this post.

It was getting out of hand and becoming the type of debate that belongs in the political forum. Only the tail end of posts were removed.

Does it really need to be explained to the staff here that if a discussion of a film reaches a pitch that you would describe as "needing to be in the political forum" that it's a good thing?

If it was Paris '68 and the filmmakers were out in the street you guys would probably close the thread. This is a forum about film goddamnit. Passions are supposed to run high.

Please reopen. The continual closing of this thread makes it seem like DVDTalk wants to stifle debate about one of the most hotly debated films on the internet.

It would be nice just to issue a general warning to discuss the movie only and leave all the sexist claims that members are throwing around out of it, as well as deliberately sexist posts about the cast, jokes or not.

Can someone explain DVDTalk's position on this film? It's the most hotly debated film on the internet. Does DVDTalk have some kind of financial stake in the film? Is InternetBrands owned by Sony? Internet Brands makes money based on advertising based on page views, right? Maybe I'm wrong. Can someone verify?

The Ghostbuster thread drew huge traffic. I used to check it a dozen times a day. Why shut down a thread that's generating so many page views? We're the only movie community that isn't discussing the film. What is the deal?

Several pages of nothing new about the movie, just the same arguing that was becoming less and less about the movie itself, I can see why it got shut down. Or maybe it's all the nonsense that Mabuse said.

Hi everyone. First, I want to say that to my knowledge, we don't remove posts because of another company, unless there's a lawyer involved. Some of our sites with more exposure have had all manner of reps asking for stuff to be removed, but we don't fold that easily.

IB is not owned by Sony, although they ARE just down the road.

Lastly, this is from DVDTalk's Rules page:
"No pictures that a member could reasonably be called on to explain if overseen in the office by a co-worker or boss or in the home by a spouse. We're not assuming that the member works in the Vatican nor, on the other extreme, are we assuming the member is married to a porn star. If the picture is "iffy", link it with a NSFW notation."

So it's also being applied to content a bit, in this case. There's also just a general idea in the rules of being reasonable, logical, and avoiding being offensive and so on.

That thread simply needed more moderation and less closing. Super frustrating to see the same folks argue the same off-topic insults/etc...and seeing nothing done. Then the thread closed. Then reopened. Issue some warnings and kick people out if they can't follow rules.

I'd argue that discussing the issues around this movie are exactly the point of a forum like this. And it's certainly not the only thread that goes around and around with the same points being made.

It seems really silly to me that we can't talk about one of the most discussed movies in recent memory.

It's beyond absurd. The whole point of a movie forum is to debate film, this is the most hotly debated film in years, so hotly debated that it gets people downright angry...and all I can say is that that's a good thing!

Now open the god damn thread back up. Ivan Rietman just did an excellent interview on KROQ in Los Angeles this morning. Very illuminating info about the original film, the sequel, and the new movie.

Edit: KROQ's server just crashed from all the traffic due to the interview. That's how much interest there is. But our thread is closed.

I've got no dog in this fight. I was aware of some of the bickering in the thread in question, but don't believe I posted a single time.

I'm a little surprised that in the 3 days or so that this thread has been resurrected, there hasn't been some kind of response from a mod to at least acknowledge the closure/reasons, etc. Not counting IBJoel's admin response, of course.

What I dont get is when the second thread was closed, it was stated that they knew who was continually stirring the pot, yet they didn't do anything about it. They knew who was causing all the problems, the posters in th thread knew who was causing all the problems, yet nothing was done about it. Instead of moderating the thread, they simply closed it.

All I'm gonna say is that's the most negativity I've seen expressed about a movie in quite a while- looking forward to seeing it just for that reason because I like bad movies.

Apparently, I can't post comments on the Ghostbusters thread. The "post" button is missing when I try to post. Why? I don't insult other posters. I haven't made sexist comments and when a certain other poster (GuruAskew) insulted and/or baited me (many times) I refused the bait. What's the deal?

If I've criticized the movie harshly, well, isn't that our prerogative as movie posters around here?

Once one has seen a movie, one can post their opinion about the movie based on the movie's content.
