Re: Mobile version

Why does the owner of this site refuse to allow access to Tapatalk?

Dan 10-27-14 09:58 AM

Re: Mobile version

^ Because they own Forum Runner, which is a competing product, I'm guessing.

I'm fine without Tapatalk (I don't really think it's that great). A proper mobile site is a better solution, IMO.

Re: Mobile version

I've still been using Forum Runner and it works decently enough, with the exception of things like spoiler tags not working properly.

Re: Mobile version

Tapatalk works fine for my purposes and is free so to force us to pay for their app (which hasn't been updated in over a year?) if we want a decent mobile experience is just...douchery, imho

btw: from the day tapatalk was invented this site has refused to support it. Fortunately, a favorite competing blu-ray site I access much more than this one is available on tapatalk.

Hopefully you will enjoy the mobile skin soon :)

In the meantime, feel free to PM me for a refund.

Cool news. I much prefer a mobile site over Tapatalk. I use Tapatalk on occasion for a couple other forums I frequent but have never really liked it much.

Any word yet on when the Mobile Skin will be here?

ibobi 12-31-14 04:01 PM

Re: Mobile version

Not yet, but I am told early 2015. It's already tested and approved on other sites and it works well.

The mods and admins should be testing the mobile version of the site now. I have it on my phone as we speak (just came out today). We want to run it in this format for a couple of days to work out any bugs before it goes to the rest of the site's members. If you don't have it in a week, let me know and I'll get with IB to push the release along.

Re: Mobile version

I'm guessing the mobile version available for everyone? It popped up on my iPhone earlier. First glitch I noticed was that when clicking on the subforums, it wasn't doing anything. But I just messed with it right now, and it's now pulling up the threads.

Not sure if I like this yet...

Thanks for the update VinVega. Glad to know it's imminent. :)

trespoochies, I don't get the mobile page at all on my phone, but based on Vin's response, I'm sure it's coming.

Re: Mobile version

Yep! And it does have a button where you can see the full site, so that's a nice option to have for those who aren't digging the new layout.

What browser do you use on your phone?

I use Chrome.

Re: Mobile version

Welp, maybe it is available to everyone. I do use Chrome on my Android phone, so I think that's a safe browser to try with this rollout.

Re: Mobile version

Is there a specific mobile URL that might work or are you not allowed to reveal it just yet?

The Cow 03-18-15 02:51 PM

Re: Mobile version

I don't see it on iPhone (with Chrome or Safari). Perhaps is only showing for Android currently.

fumanstan 03-18-15 04:05 PM

Re: Mobile version

Is there a particular address? I don't see anything on my Android or iPhone just going to forum.dvdtalk.com

E Unit 03-18-15 06:40 PM

Re: Mobile version

I just went the usual way to www.dvdtalk.com on my iPhone. There's this banner at the bottom that looks like this.

Weird, don't see that show up at the bottom in either of my phones. You must be special :D

Yep, seeing it on iPhone/Safari now. Still need to play around with it, but thanks for finally pushing this through!

It was turned on for everyone this morning :)

Re: Mobile version

I'm not seeing it on WP8.1 (running IE), but such is the plight of the 4%. :/

Solid Snake 03-19-15 02:19 PM

Re: Mobile version

Now if it could only take me to the last post immediately instead of just starting me off at the first post when I click on the thread.

DVDtalk problems.

Re: Mobile version

I have to say, the web version is ugly, is riddled with ads even if you're logged in, and I immediately went back to the full site. If I were a new visitor, and all I saw was the web version, I'd leave and never check the site out again.

E Unit 03-19-15 03:30 PM

Re: Mobile version

Yeah, I'm just not feeling the mobile layout. I'm sticking with the desktop version. There's nothing wrong with reading that on my phone.

Superman07 03-19-15 04:40 PM

Re: Mobile version

I agree there are a lot of ads, but navigation and reading are a lot easier than full view on a phone. Posting replies is easier too. If in full view zooming to reply is alway weird - keyboard overlays the type window.

Sure some things could be improved but I like the update. Several years past due!

but still behind the norm for mobile sites of 2015...

Re: Mobile version

Not bad for a first draft I guess, but I'm definitely not going to be using it as it is. Reasons already mentioned.

Re: Mobile version

I think the mobile site is good. Not really understanding the complaints some have. It's pretty clean and much easier to post. I'm using Safari on my iPhone and there are no ads whatsoever. Some things could be fine tuned but I think it's mostly a good effort.
