I think that if a person who used to come to Dvdtalk or is new shows up to the main page and just clicks on the select forums area it looks like a site devoted to only Dvd's with no mention of BluRay's at all.

None of the sub menus show at all from the main page.

To find those sub menus you need to click into the forums then look at a drop down to finally see them.

Obviously there is some mention of Blurays on the front page. The top of the page has a link to BluRay reviews although even from that page there is nothing showing Bluray discussion from the forum drop down on that page.

You only see the subforums when you get into the forums themselves and pull down the menus or if you click into the Dvd Bargains forum then it shows without the drop down menu.

So, call me crazy, but why don't you just buy the url blu-raytalk.com and rebrand the website? Seems like a relatively inexpensive way to upgrade and relaunch the site.

And when the next new format comes along we'll lobby to rebrand it to that.com and so on and so forth. DVDTalk is the name of the place, it's who we are. I think DVDTalk is inclusive of digital media in whatever form it takes, Blu-rayTalk is just about blu-ray.

I hear 8TrackTalk doesn't have a lot of traffic on it's forums.

I think it'd make more sense to rebrand as something more generic and not a format that will eventually be something that nobody uses anymore. People that aren't familiar with the site will hear the name and think it's a retro site. They'll skip checking it out because they want to know about new releases of the current popular formats.

That makes no sense. DVDtalk...makes people think we talk about DVDs. Not every media falls in that. DVDtalk makes as much sense as Blu-rayTalk. Also..why are you guys calling it Blu-rayTalk? Wouldn't it be BDTalk? Granted...the average person doesn't call it that but short hand for Blu-ray Disc is BD.

Geoff registered a couple of high-deffy domain names that presumably passed along to Internet Brands, but I don't remember what they were. BLU-RAYTALK.COM might have been one of them. BLURAYTALK.COM and BDTALK.COM are definitely owned by other folks. This was early enough that I think there was an HD DVD one, but that's a moot point now!

It is a shame that the site name might be a bit outdated, but I'm not sure if anything available would be any better.

Do many new people come to the site just because of the name though? Don't google searches go "deeper" than just the site name? And wouldn't there be lots of other 'keywords' or whatever on the site so that anyone searching for home video discussion will find this site easily?

Looks like the "Forum Jump" at the bottom-right was updated, but not the one at the top-left.

I do agree the main site page drop down should be updated, if that is thought to be the starting point to the site for new people (kinda curious what the trend of new users created is these days too )

Hum. I assumed they meant this was what the change would look like since I did not even notice a change in the forum drop downs anywhere.

I guess I need to look around to see where that change shows up I guess.


Yeah. It looks like a change was made to a bottom drop down once you are in the forums.

The top drop down in the forums is still the old way and the main site page is still also showing the old way also. So it seems that a few more places may need to be changed to make this work.

So the covers/cases/inserts and International forums won't be folded into DVD Talk then? I had thought that was a pretty sound idea.

It looks like a new change went in so now if you are in the forums the top drop down menu and the bottom reflect the change.

However, on the main dvdtalk.com page when you first get to the site still does not show this change.

Also the link to BluRay on the top of the main page takes you to another page that also does not show the change in the forums list from the drop down menu.

This may seem like a strange question. I noticed when on the video games forum that the top drop down did not have the new listing as the other forums I have checked did. It still shows the old listing with no BluRay bargains.

Does this website software force you to change each drop down for each page?

I wonder if this is why some of the pages like on the main site page still has the wrong drop downs.

Yeah, it's pretty manual for a lot of the places where it displays.

Thread flagged for IB attention earlier on. Site changes ultimately carried out by IB staff further to input from members and mods as necessary. Explanations as to scope/nature/timing etc of changes and any reference to the ongoing discussion in this thread logically falls to those with power to enact changes since anyone else may lack the full picture. But sometimes too much information can take a discussion off on a (techie?) tangent.

BTW... Some people & stores (goHastings for example) cal them Blu-ray DVD... Which is kinda odd.. But still used nonetheless...

That odditie ignored...I did want to mention that the DVD Clubs sub-forum under the DVD bargains does have threads with mixed DVD & Blu content as well as some Blu only threads.... Wonder if there is another change if that would be better named Disc Club Bargains and reside below DVD Bargain forum on the forum list instead of being a sub forum within the DVD Bargains Forum....

On the DVD talk home page, the Select Forum Area listbox does not list all the forums. I have to go to one of the forums, THEN the listbox there will show Blu Ray Bargains.

Probably because the change is new. I get in here by clicking on the Forum link at the top and then selecting where I want to go.
