Premium membership question / issue

I've had a premium membership for a couple of years, and it renews the end of December. Last year I was billed twice - and I received my refund for the extra one promptly (thanks!).

I have the payment drawn out of my PayPal account, and in mid-December of this year I had $10 taken out for a renewal (which left me about $1 in my account).

A few days later an attempt was made to renew the membership again (why? I don't know) and I was told it didn't go through because I didn't have the funds in my PayPal account. I ignored it because my User CP shows me as paid through 2011.

Today I received an email from PayPal stating that my premium membership has been cancelled (though I still have an avatar and the spiffy black hat).

Cancellation Date: Dec 31, 2010
Subscription Name: Premium Membership Subscription
Subscription Number: S-98312706V28581624
Item Number: 1ac8f92d35957bd486428825b24c2fef

So, am I street legal Premium for another year?

Membership issues

Who do I yell at for not canceling my membership last year when I asked them to? I got nailed again. Ugh.

Re: Membership issues

I cancelled through paypal last year about this time. I can see the cancellation in the history. I still got recharged again this year somehow. I think it has something to do with the double billing mess of last year, but not sure.

I renewed at $10 again this year. My coupon was still active.

Re: Membership issues

I got several emails saying payment wasn't going through since I had changed credit cards. Then I got one about it being cancelled. But I still have my avatar?

Re: Membership issues

I cancelled the subscription thru paypal last year. Then got an e-mail this year saying it didn't go through because my credit card info was outdated. I went into paypal and updated the cc info and the payment to DVDTalk was processed. No double charge for me, but still a little unusual how it's set up.

I am taking it that there's no Paypal FAQ explaining this as something that can arise other than at DVDtalk and so have re-flagged this with the mod team and IB to see if anyone can get to the bottom of this.

I would ask for anyone not directly impacted to please use another thread for any commentary in order that we are better able to focus on those with the continuing issue.

Thanks to all for their patience in the meantime

Re: Premium membership question / issue

Please PM me if you have been double charged with the following information:

Your paypal email
Transaction ID #
Refund amount

Our accounts payable department will verify it and reimburse you.

I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: Premium membership question / issue

I am in the opposite boat...I wanted to renew. I know for a fact that my information on Pay Pal is current. The same debit card is on there as last year and it's not expired yet. The same bank account is on there and it's been open for 10 years. Money is not the issue either...it's in there. I work for the bank I bank with so I know this debit hasn't tried to come through.

I received an email two days ago that my membership payment failed and to update my information. It fails ONCE and now it looks like I am not a premium member anymore? What's up with that? I verified the debit card on the Pay Pal account...I would appreciate it if I could get the membership renewed.

Re: Premium membership question / issue

For a swifter outcome, I would PM IBAngel who is the company person dealing with the various subscription-related problems. I have suggested that as part of the resolution process she looks into the cause in order to reduce the risk of repetition. However, that would be an IB decision and there may be resource issues of which I am unaware.

I know that IB is working on a solution to this problem.

Suggested early action to reduce risk of unwanted re-billing

As this has been an annual issue for at least these past couple of Dec/Jans, maybe this would be a time for those wishing to reduce the risk of re-billing in respect of a "no-longer-wanted" Premium Membership to double-check their Paypal [subscription?] settings and also to PM IBobi by way of a belt & braces approach...?

Re: Premium membership question / issue

For the lazy:
1. Log into your Paypal account.
2. Select History.
3. Select Subscriptions.
4. You may need to change the date range to 2009 through 2011.
5. If the payment status isn't cancelled, your subscription is still active.

Is it still possible to get a subscription for $10? I'm just seeing the $20 option.

If you already renewed at $10, it may be set to $10 annually in paypal.

Re: Premium membership question / issue

This one might be best asked of IBobi directly.

Although I've flagged this thread, I would suggest an email/PM to increase the likelihood of a swift response.

If I have no Subscriptions option under History, can I assume that I (finally) correctly canceled all this last year?

It's not in the menu under History, you have to click on the History link itself to get to the page that has it. This is what mine looks like:

Ah, thanks. I had to dig even deeper, clicking on the Filters dropdown to find it. But it's all empty, so I'm set to expire!
