Otter Picture Thread?

What happened? It doesn't seem to exist there anymore.

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

I don't moderate Other - or usually view such threads - but I do know that, from time to time, people who should know better contrive to push the envelope with the pictures that they post.

Deletions, moves, locks, suspensions etc almost inevitably result when said envelope is pushed beyond tolerance levels.

Maybe one of the mods involved can reply here if you give the thread title and some indication of when it went AWOL.

Non-sequitur thread is still there:

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/other-talk/...t-5-alive.html

Random picture post 26 is missing, though. Seems like it was there yesterday because I remember posting a picture of my junk to it:

I don't think it's gone; it might be too small to see.

Groucho's title is as close as I can remember. The names were random per thread.

It was "Super Bowl XXVI" or somesuch

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

It was removed because it takes too long to clean out all the nipple, crotch, upskirt, and other types of shots that we haven't allowed on the forum since the Adult Forum left.

There have been plenty of warnings about those types of pictures in the past. Since this type of thread obviously takes close monitoring because people can't stay within our posting guidelines I'm not sure it's worth having anymore.

Bandoman 03-03-10 12:10 PM

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

I venture into those threads occasionally, and I'm always surprised to see borderline (or not so borderline) NSFW pics. The rule is quite clear, and it's not like there aren't one or two other places on the internet to go to see nekkid wimmins.

spainlinx0 03-03-10 12:44 PM

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

I have never seen a picture there that is any worse than what constantly pops up on DVD covers at the top of every page. Seems a bit hypocritical.

I googled for 'nekkid wimmins'. I'm very disappointed. :boring:

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

Well damn... I figured some of the same three or four jack asses who KEPT posting pics of chicks would cost us that thread.

I would have preferred they all got like a long 'vacations' or a ban instead of the thread going, but I understand the situation.

Over and over again we would get it back to cool pics after X tried to be reasonable about it, and the very same jackasses would start with chick pictures again after a while.

Sucks...

The Cow 03-03-10 02:40 PM

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

Not sure it would matter, but can we fire it back up again with some kind of warning in the thread title?

Or is it just to a point where it's not worth dealing with?

Dr Mabuse 03-03-10 03:38 PM

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

X has already done a shitload of warnings, and it was always the same three or four morons who kept getting back to 'hot chicks'.

If we are lucky enough to get it going again I'll try to make the moderating easy by reporting the stuff as it's posted, maybe some others will too. If a vacation or ban followed each report, maybe the children would finally wise up.

There were so many cool images posted in that thread.

so it goes 03-03-10 07:50 PM

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

Those threads have always been my favorites here at dvdtalk, I am going to really miss them if they are gone for good. I thought about reporting a few things that were posted but never did, probably should have.
So many good pictures that I have shared with friends have come from these threads in the past, I wish there was a way we could keep them going.

I still think X goes overboard with the decision making on these threads. Granted, it has been a while since this happened, but still, it seems pretty puritanical to me when it does happen.

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

Whatever. I enjoyed the threads because it was a mix of cool pictures and hot chicks. I didn't think anything was that bad.

thread in feedback forum discussing it

too many posts in it that broke the rules, they decided it was easier to delete than clean up.. as they handed out the suspensions..

the nsfw pictures has definitly gone overboard
but i like those threads.. lots of funny/weird/interesting pictures get posted.. if people could just follow the rules

I get the feeling from X's posts in the Feedback thread that he'd rather not see them continue.

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

Perhaps the nsfw image threads could be moved to the Premium section? At the very least it's hidden from the general public that read the boards, and with it being a pay section you know everyone viewing it is at least over 18. And Lord knows the Premium section can use the traffic... :D

Please note that the mods/admins do not police the advertisements as such - but will pass on to IB member comments regarding specific covers should anything NSFW (or otherwise objectionable) appear in the rotation. I would advise caution about "crying wolf", however. Anyhoo, given that this very topic has been discussed at length before, I suggest anyone with strong feelings should look through the old threads and post a detailed argument rather than start up the whole thing from scratch. I can then refer any constructive criticism to IB for comment. But I'm not holding my breath and any sort of descent into "ya, boo, it sucks and isn't fair" can only have one result.

I think it was decided some time ago that the same rules applied in Premium as elsewhere and that it was not going to be an Adult forum under a new guise. I've also heard tell that Paypal won't be associated with such content although I cannot say whether this is reliable information.

I had a feeling this was going to happen, for the same reasons that you posted. Every once in a while, X would get people back on track, but then it would degenerate into pictures of women, for the sole purpose of showing how attractive they were. It would be one thing if it was newbies doing that, but it was people who have been warned multiple times.

It's unfortunate, as there were a lot of cool pictures being posted, but it doesn't surprise me in the least.

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

It's our own fault for not reporting the few objectionable posts, the ones with visible naughty bits.

I know the mods are underpaid and overworked, but most of the thread was a lot of fun, and I wish a couple of suspensions were the end result instead of a thread delete.

But then, I think no post should ever be deleted, outside of really extreme circumstances. Just delete the offending text/pic and posters, not entire posts or threads.

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

You really should get rid of the NSFW tag since anything NSFW really isn't safe for DVDTalk, or make it a NSFDVDT tag to make it easy to remove the offending things.

I didn't think any of the pics I posted were deserving of the warning I received, but I'm sorry if I caused the closing of the thread in any way. (though nothing I posted was worse than some of the GIFs that are still in that thread)

I believe that there was more than one such thread and my suggestion was to read them and then post a detailed argument. I did not suggest bumping the threads or that a rational argument was unwelcome in this one. I did suggest avoiding the "it's not fair" type of posting that doesn't advance matters.

I've notified the cover you cited to IB for attention/comment, thank you. It may be that we'll need to find a dedicated email address for such notifications directly to whoever its is at IB that monitors the ads.

EDIT: on checking, I see that the reference was to a cover-picture cited in one of the earlier threads but it may be that the referral will generate IB concern/interest regardless of age.
